I have one - and to be honest it was a huge waste of money - I think from memory it was about $700 (from Bing Lee - no idea of the brand) and it never actually cooled down the bedroom we had it in. You basically had to sit directly in front of it to feel the cool air. Also it had to work too hard when it was really hot and would freeze up and stop.
Are you renting or in your own place? R/C aircon was the best thing we ever put in our house and less exxy than I thought.
ETA: BTW noone I have spoken to who has one rates them very highly...
