Just wondering if anyone has used the Strider without a bassinette for their newborn? We had our heart set on the 4 wheeler strider, but when we were just about to hand over the money to buy one, the Baby Bunting lady told us we would have to buy a bassinette as a newborn couldn't be put into the normal seat as it didn't lie completely flat.
Is this right? Do we have to spend all that money on a bassinette that he will only be in for a couple of months? Anyone know why the seat, when reclined, can't be used for a newborn?
The website says it is suitable from birth and at the baby and child expo, when we saw the new Strider being demonstrated, it actually had a head support insert and foot muff obviously aimed at newborn babies as part of it's normal seat. The bassinette and car seat parts were on show too, but the manufacturers are obviously quite comfortable putting newborns in them, so why does the baby bunting lady say otherwise? Does she have info that the steelcraft don't want us to know, or is she trying to make a sale? It definitely backfired on her, as we didn't buy the pram that day...........
Soooo many dilemma's......just wanting to hear from others who have used the seat for their brand new bubs or who know why the seat isn't suitable......
Cheers
We decided to go with the bassinette because I wasn't happy that the stroller seat reclined flat enough for a newborn for my liking. We got good use out of the bassinette as DS slept in it for the first couple of months and was in it for 4.5 months.
Remember that this is a sales person who is trying to sell stuff and not necessarily give you the information that you want...
We've checked out the strider in two places... One is quite happy to say that the regular seat is suitable for newborns as it does recline to flat, the other insists that the bassinette attachment is absolutely necessary. Strangely enough, everything is more expensive at the shop that insists the bassinette is required and the sales people there really go for the hard sell...
I'm pretty sure we will be getting the strider, and just as sure that we won't be getting the bassinette. I know of several people who have used the regular strider seat from birth. And several others who have used the bassinette, but as their baby's regular sleeping place for the first few months as well.
were you looking at the strider or the new strider deluxe? I saw the strider deluxe ... has the capsule travel system option as well. and the various ppl we spoke to said the normal seat is fine for newborns!
It's turning out to be a big decision for us too...the strider 4 seat reclines to 'flat' but the new strider deluxe doesn't! Go figure!? Going back again next week to have another look.
