I love the ERGO too - but I also have a mei tai which I have found really good. Front and back carry and small enough to fold up under the pram. DH has used it too so it can't be too badSee if you can try on a few to see which suits.
ETA - ERGO is easy to use and put on. I use both the ERGO and mei tai for DS who is 2yo and 12kg. I have used the ERGO for my 4yo niece for back carry and the weight limit is 40lb (I think that was it on the DVD) which is roughly 20kg (if you want to carry them for that long
