I usually buy clothes and little items like that till further down the track. When i find out what gender baby is i go and buy something gender specific that day . With #7 i bought most of his big stuff after he was born (nappy bag, cot, change table, bouncer, bottle steriliser) as i realised i needed it.
We got a white fluffy snowsuit from a garage sale at about 16 weeks as DS was going to be born midwinter. He never ended up wearing it, as we never put him in a pram and they are not safe in the carseat and he was snuggly enough anyway in the sling without it! The first new things we got him were some blue babygros when we found out the sex. We drove straight from the scan to the supermarket! They were all too big for him as the growth predictions were all wrong (they said he would be big!) so he didn't wear them until he was about 4 months old!
I didn't buy anything with any of my losses. With DD, I had a really positive feeling. Just before I found out I was pg (which I found out at 11dpo) I bought two a few jumpsuits off of eBay. They were so tiny and cute...and DD never wore them! They were too 'boy'. When I was 4 weeks mum bought a pair of saints socks, again, DD never wore them, her feet were too big. The first thing I bought specifically for DD was a wall decal which we use now. It's a bunch of black cats with paint tins 'painting' the wall
Shhhh. Finally broke my 'no first trimester shopping' rule and bought a couple of second hand wraps!
If they arrive early I think I'm just going to tell DH that they're shawls. I bet he won't even notice if I start to use them for baby-wearing in 7 months time. :-P
We bought a pram! I think I was only about 6-8 weeks pg. We were looking on gumtree for something else and found a brand new 3-wheeler with a bassinet attachment and it was half the price of what we would have paid in the shops. I was ridiculously scared that I was jinxing myself but...... three weeks later we bought a handcrafted cot.
Both items have been put to good use and didn't jinx us at all!
The first thing I brought for DD was a green blanket. I got it when I was only a few weeks pregnant. I had previously had a MC at 6 weeks and one of my biggest regrets was that I had never brought that baby anything (that may sound stupid I know, but it really upset me). Anyway, I wanted to buy something for DD really early but didn't want something too big so I could hide it away if the unthinkable happened again, thus choosing the blanket We still use it in her pram to this day. She loves it
For DS it was Grover (from Sesame Street), although technically we bought a pram toy while we were TTC for luck!
For this baby, I am resisting the clothes shopping urge until we find out babys gender next month. But I've put two boxes of nappies and a breast pump on layby
