    WWYD? Cot location..

We have a 3 bedroom house. Our room is on the opposite side of the lounge room to the other two. DS has his own room and the one beside his is the study/DH's room (he has a million model kits and such that take up most of the room).

So now that we are expecting bundle number 2 I'm trying to decide where to put the "nursery". I wanted to move to a bigger house but DH is being frustrating and doesn't see it as necessary..

We could put the cot and change table in our room (there is room for both) or I could clear out the gazillion toys that have overtaken 3/4 of DS room and put baby in there too. I should probably mention DS doesn't sleep in his room, he sleeps on the couch . I know that having baby in our room will be easier for feeding etc in the middle of the night but I cant decorate as such our room. There is only one place the baby furniture can go in our room which will cover part of the wardrobe (1 of 3 doors which isn't a big deal, it is rarely used).

I just don't know what I want to do..

In the early days my convenience was more important than anything else. I'd skip the decorating and have baby in your room.

I think your right Fiona. She'll probably end up in our room first and move her later on.

I'd do the same as what Fiona said. Put the baby in your room to being with. At least it will give you longer to decide on what you want to do.

We had the twins in our bedroom until they were 9mths old - then DD got moved from the bigger bedroom into our smaller spare room and the boys then into the bigger room.

We never decorated the bigger room until we knew who was going to end up in it - ie: If we had 2 more girls or g/b twins then the twins would have used the bigger room until we would have put all girls in together. Saying that we now only have floor rugs and wall stickers as "gender' decoration which is pretty easy to do when you decide the room situation, everything else was pretty gender nautral and more in keeping with the colour scheme of the house IYKWIM.

...ooooor, you could just box up DH's stuff in the study and decorate it as your nursery (because, darn it, that's the fun part). He will either:
    (a) begrudingly accept that you were right and a bigger house is called for or,
    (b) just have to get over it because a bigger house is called for!

You know what? this brings on a vent...... why do men get to have an entire room to put their stuff yet my stuff (sewing and craft things) are all packed away in boxes that I have to drag out whenever I want to do something which quite puts me off sewing because I have to drag it all out and don't have MY OWN ROOM!

oops! Sorry - hijacked your thread!

Haha Cass I know the feeling! All my scrapbooking stuff lives in boxes and gets pulled put when I have time. I wish I could box it all up, fills the entire room with a walkway to the desk does my head in!

Think it'll be more convenient putting the cot in our room for a while then I have more time to convince him that we NEED to move. At least for my sanity :P

I am in the same situation. DD doesnt sleep in her room either! Well maybe only a couple of hours per night.

Our spare room has a queen size bed in it and I want to keep it that way as DH often sleeps in there when doing night shift.

I think I will put the cot in the main bedroom to start with and go from there.

Thanks Ali The cot package we want won't actually be in stock until mid November so I'll be using a bassinet in the mean time which makes the decision easier. I've talked DH into moving if we can find something around September Can't wait! We've been in this house for 5 years and we've definitely outgrown it in that time..

We've never had the kids in our room, they've always been on the other side of the back room.

We sleep with our door open though, and always wake up when they do.

But they're far enough away that we don't wake them up when we move around, get into/out of bed, etc, and we don't wake up from every snuffle, grunt and fart

    It works for us.

It also means that if DH gets up to give DS1 an bottle of EBM - or if I get up to bf - the other of us can roll over and go back to sleep easily.

Maybe try out one way for a couple of weeks, and if it's not working for you, or you're not comfortable with it
