Is this an evaporation line on Lullaby Conception test (for a friend)

    Asking for a friend...

She is about 10-12 DPO. She took a test (lullaby conceptions) but peed on the stick rather than dipping it. In doing so, she splashed some pee on the test part of the strip.

A faint second line came up within a minute or so. It was colored.

She tested on a FRER immediately with a drop of pee but it was a BFN.

Is the LC an evap? I reckon it is but opinions needed. Thanks

Here are some pics (not great quality but you get the idea) -

hmm, it's hard to say really.

    There are two scenarios:

1 - the first line that came up was in fact a positive, but it was a negative on the second test because the urine wasn't as concentrated or as much as the first.

2 - the first line that came up was an evap and the second test gave an accurate negative result.

I'd suggest she try again first thing tomorrow morning.

It is still very possible to get a "false" negative at 10-12dpo.

I've never even had a hint of an evap with LC tests. And I've used a lot and have desperately wanted to see another line but always an obvious bfn even hours or days later. When I have been pregnant LC Have given me clear BFPs.

    Thanks

From personal experience I know LCs to be more sensitive than FRERs (I've used both to test out HCG booster shots in IVF and the LC show before the FRERs and still show a line after the FRERs have faded as HCG is leaving the system.)

I guess the big thing is with her splashing pee on the test strip (ie, not just the tip) whether that is liable to cause a false positive or evap????

I used LC tests with both DD's and got positives at 11dpo (DD1) and 8dpo (DD2) - I never got a feint/evap/false positive with them.

    with DD1 i got a positive with FRER at 13DPO and DD2 at 11DPO..

ETA: I also poas instead of dipping it and wee splashed too, with no adverse effect

eta again! my 8dpo test with DD2 looked like the 2nd pic

That pic looks like it's got a bit of colour to the second line, my gut says positive!

Yeah, it looks colored to me too. Are evap/faulty lines not colored?

I thought it looks coloured to me which suggests positive. I have never seen a coloured evap line.

I was under the impression that an evap line was a opaque kind of colour, I can't be sure though!

That looks positive to me, it has colour. I used LC tests with DD1 and DD2 and always got stronger lines on them than FRER.

How annoying though. So frustrating not getting a clear answer and not knowing for sure one way or the other!

Only hcg will produce a coloured line - and that line looks very coloured! Splashing wee around will not affect whether that wee contains hcg and shouldn't affect the result. Positive I reckon!

i'd be saying positive. and i dont think splashing wee wee everywhere makes any difference to the positive line showing

Well now I will be wondering. If she feels like sharing the outcome it would be great to know!

If the coloured line is where the line should appear then it is most likely a positive test. Any pee on the test line that contains HCG will initiate the colour change, whether it is soaked up or splashed on. An evap line should appear like a tide mark on paper - that slightly off white bit where it has been wet and then dried.
