    Expired HPTs - false positives?

So I've been feeling off for a few days, that familiar MS feeling, and so I decided to do a HPT today with my out of date Lullabye Conception tests. Straight away I got a clear, strong positive. Eeek!

We have major fertility issues, so never expect to conceive without IVF, and so aren't practicising any contraception. I've been pregnant once before without IVF and that ended in an early miscarriage, so I'm not getting my hopes up.

Can anyone tell me if I am more likely to get a false positive or a false negative with an old test. (I tested about a month or two ago and I got a negative then).

I would have thought there be more chance of a false negative than a false positive? Best of luck

That's how I found out I was pregnant with DD2. My tests were a couple of yrs out of date. Did you do more than one?

    I'm with Trish.

I'd be popping the champagne corks if I were you (non-alcoholic of course )

I wouldn't trust an out of date test and would go and get a new one just to be sure

LOL Heaven! I'm about to do a 2nd one now - I am getting a bit excited. I tried to tell DH to come home early today, but he probably won't. (I didn't seem right to tell him on the phone!).

I figured that it was more likely to be a false negative than a false positive. If I get another positive, I'll pop out to the shops tonight

I wouldn't think that they would give a false positive.

    How exciting!!

Great news for you my dear - you can't actually get a false positive from a test out of date or not!!!

To get a positive there is hcg in your system and we all know how that gets there lol

This IVF cycle I tested with a few out of date tests and they were correct. I'd say congrats .

Thanks everyone! I got a FR last night and it too showed positive, so my two out of date tests were accurate.

I reckon I might almost be 8 weeks, depending on when I ovulated, which I don't actually remember. Off to the GP on Monday!
