MY name is Holly,I'm not a regular poster (more of a lurker), but am in need of some suggestions for determining the results of my HPT.
A little background.........
I have a little boy, who is 19months old and my husband and i have just started TTC (about 6weeks ago). I have not had a bleed yet since my son was born as i am still BF frequently, though i feel as though my body has been trying to Ovulate. Because of this i have nothhing to go of in terms of "is my period late yet" iykwim, so feeling a little pregnant the other day decided i might just test to see (had always planned to just 'be' this time around and determine my pregnancy's progression and timing from fundal height, though i've now realised i'm more impatient than i thought!).
Anyways, for the past 4 days i have been getting VERY faint positives (within the time) on internet cheapies, though they have not gotten the slightest bit darker over the 4 days. The first one was probably about as faint as when i got a BFP with my son however his positive test got darker in the days following.............these haven't!
So now i am wondering is it all just in my head (though my friend agreed she could see it too) or is something amiss? Any experience or suggestion would be more than welcome. Wondering whether i should get a bHcg done if it doesn't get darker or go away in the next couple days. Can you tell this is driving me nuts.........i just wish it would come or go.
BTW, i have done a couple of test without FMU and they have been negative.
well i would say you could definately be pregnant. hcg doubles every 48 hours so if you re test every few days rather than every day you are more likely to see an increase in darkness of line. as for the BFN when not using FMU well you would be very very very early to be getting a faint line so you would need all the concentration in your urine that you can get.
i would re-test in a couple days with FMU, or other than that i would get a blood test from doctor.
the other thing is, sometimes you can have a very early miscarriage and only realise because you have tested so early. alot of the time women dont even know they have had a miscarriage if they arent testing as they get what seems like normal AF on time or close to on time. seeing as though you havent had AF back yet it kinda confuses things. but yeah re-test and then go to GP.
Hello Holly. You could try a different brand of early detection HPT - like Discovery One Step from the chemists, and the Elevit one is really good too (plus you get a little pack of Elevit pregnancy multivitamins ). As Hollo said, you could be just very early or it could be a biochem pregnancy which you wouldn't normally pick up unless you were testing. Wishing you lots of luck in your journey to TTC #2!
Just for the record, I poas this morning and pretty much got nothing but a VERY faint line at 10mins (putting this one down to evap line). So certainly haven't gotten darker than my original faint positives 5 days ago. As kbowman said, perhaps it was a biochem preg or that i've just got crazy hormones happening in my bod right now........guess i will never know. But i DO know that i definately had faint positives to start.
I have now resigned myself to the fact that i am NOT pregnant (yet). Now just hoping for my first bleed soon so i can work out what is going on.
Does anybody know whether breastfeeding can effect test results (i'm assuming no) as my little one has been quite ill over the weekend and i have been BF'ing him constantly (more than usual) over this time. Just thought i would ask out of curiosity more than anything.

I fell pregnant while still BF my DS1 when he was 5 months old and never had a false positive while BF DS2. I doubt it could impact a HPT but I can't be 100% sure because I'm not a doctor. The test I used was a midstream early detection test, I believe it was Crystal Clear and the doc didn't even bother doing another one because he said that they were one of the most accurate tests available so it was definitely positive.
Good luck to you on TTC#2. I hope this is it and you're on your way! Going to the doc and getting a blood test would probably be your best bet at this point. I hope it works out.
I have to agree with Hollo and suggest that you go see you dr for a blood test. You can always request for two forms so that you can have one BT that day and if it comes back positive you can have another test in a couple more days to make sure the hcg level is rising.
