Firt time using OPK's - Help!

    Hi,

I'm on CD19 of what I think should be a 32 day (ish) cycle.

After using OPK's (Foretel brand) for two weeks I got two matching dark lines last night after the previous tests only ever showed one line and occassionally a really faint test line.

However, judging by last month's temperature rise I would have thought I'd O'd already. Maybe on CD18? Mucus checking tells me that the most likely day for ovulation would have been a couple of days ago.

Can you get a positive OPK, after ovulation and not the 12-36 hours before as the instructions say?

DTD last night (and every other day since CD9) but I'm exhausted, as is hubby and just cant face it again tonight...no matter how much I want a baby.

Do you think I've ovulated or is it still to come given the +ve test was only last night?

BTW out of curiosity i did another OPK today just to see what would happen and though I got two lines the test line was quite faint so I believe the surge was detected 24 hours ago.

Given we had sex pretty much straight after doing the OPK, there is a 'decent' chance that the sperm will live long enought to fertilise if I haven't O'd yet (and may do in the next 12 hours?)

To add frustration to the mix, my temperature chart hasn't shown the 'normal' rise I've got in other months. Man this is confusing!

Hope this makes sense and someone with more experience in OPK testing than me has some ideas.

    Thank you!

    Nicole

    Hi Nicole,

I am facing a similar question. I am on assisted conception awaiting a froz embryo transfer as such using OPK's as provided by ivf clinic (clearblue brand). I had a surge detected yesterday, went in for a blood test today and they rang an hr ago to tell me I haven't O'd yet so need to go in tomorrow for further bloods

I have PCO (not PCOS), which the nurse said can throw out the PH levels.

I would have sworn I'd O'd today by the way my ovaries felt a little tender and from MC but it appears I haven't. Which of course makes me think I've missed the boat and will have to wait another month but I will trust the med experts to have it under control and my fingers crossed for a transfer this week!

Sorry, this doesn't help you except to know others under medical supervision are equally confused!

    Nicole,
OPK"s will detect the surge that occurs 12-48 hours prior to ovulation occuring. So, you surged last night but may not ovulate until tomorrow at the latest.
I would certainly dtd tonight again just for insurance if possible... HTH.

A few days later this is how things have gone.

Day 18 LH surge detected with OPK and DTD late that night
Day 19 drop in temperature (early AM)
Day 20 thermal shift, temperature up (early AM)
Day 21 temp up still (Early AM)
Day 22 temp up still (now with three days above coverline)

Didn't manage to DTD on day 19.

There is a chance I might have conceived DTD on day 18 isn't there?

    Hoping.....

Yes there is a good chance especially with those temps indicating that ovulation had occured. The most important thing is to have sperm up there and waiting when you ovulate. You had this so now it's the waiting game! I hope so much that you get your this month...

Sounds consistent with my results too. I had a surge detected Sunday. Blood test Monday am indicated that I hadn't O'd, blood test Tues indicated that I O'd on Monday. Tomorrow is transfer day FET day so fingers, arms, legs etc crossed.

Good luck Nicole, I hope this month is the one for you!

Hi, thanks for asking! Good news for us, we had 2 embies transferred the Thurs after ovulation (they were Day 3 embies). 1 embryo decided to that my uterus was a good home so I am now 8.5 weeks pregnant and of course hoping for the all clear at the 12 week mark so we can start spreading the news.

Hoping Nicole got her BFP too!
