Hi,

I used a maybe baby to conceive DS but only used it for 1cycle which was the cycle I got preg with him.

I am now on cycle #2 ttc baby #2 and I have just started using my maybe baby again yesterday (cd11) which I got pebbles and today on cd12 I had ferning I haven't had any ewcm yet and last month I think I ovulated at about cd19 or cd20 (my cycle ended up being 36days long) so I was a bit suprised but excited to see ferning this early on in my cycle.

After reading the maybe baby thread and seeing the problems others have had with maybe babys and also the lovely Jaxi suggesting I try opk's as well I have decideed to follow her advice. And then just use the maybe baby as a guide to start opk'ing

So anyway I know a lot of you use the lullaby conceptions so I might try those next cycle if af arrives this cycle. But I think I will go for Fortel seeing as I can get them today and won't have to wait a few days. (by which time i might miss ovulation anyway)

So what I would like to know after my ramble is do opk's actually give you 1 solid day of ovulation so I will actually know how many dpo I am or are they are more accurate version of maybe baby and more just give you an ovulation period? (where you could have ovulated on a number of days)

well the opks detect a rise in the hormone that releases the egg. you can get a second line but if it isnt as dark or darker than the control line then it is negative. (but i would continue to DTD anyway) once you get a dark line then it means you are going to ovulate within 24 to 48 hours. so get busy as soon as you see the dark line. once you get a positive keep testing til you get a negative to pin point O day and DPOs.

also, they are notoriously unreliable and dont work for some people and follow the instructions on the pack as to when to test etc.

The OPK's didn't work for me when I was TTC.I used to get 3 lots of positives in some cycles.I guess it just depends on the person.

Thanks ladies, I bought a box of the forelife ones and got a positive at cd12 at 6pm and it said I would ovulate within 24-36hrs and then 47.5hrs later on cd14 at 5.30 I tested again just for the sake of it and I got another positive, so not sure what has happened there, any ideas? I am going to test again today just to see what happens I'm on cd16now I had a lot of ewcm but it has disappeared now so I am sure I have ovulated. I think I ovulated oncd 13 because I was a bit crampy and had some pain on my left side (same side I got preg with Noah from)

I've used maybe baby a bit and you will get ferns for a while before you O but it is the thickness of the ferns that you need to interpret.
So while you are getting the ferning pattern for a few days coming into the fertile period what you ned to look out for when it gets big thick stems.
It took me a while to figure this out (about 6 months) and I was learning about the mucous at the same time. There is definatley a correlation between the peak EWCM and the thickest ferns.

OPK's are similar in that you you will ovulate approx 24 hours after the darkest line detected on the test.
