Ovulation without an LH surge. Possible?

    Hi ladies,

I'm CD 21 and have just discovered a heap of EWM and have done an OPK test which is negative. Tested around 11:30am and had quite dark urine so don't think it's a dilution issue.

Possible to ovulate without an LH surge? Or is it more likely that I've missed the surge or that my CM has started changing earlier than my LH surge. Cervix is soft and high too. I'll test again this pm to see if there is any change but my EWM is getting more and more as the day goes on.

Anyone fall PG without an LH surge even though they were testing?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Hi BlackRose - I don't think it's possible to O without an LH surge as that hormone matures the follicles and triggers O. Either the surge was short or it's still building - maybe keep testing for a couple of days...? Probably better to test in the afternoon or evening too, rather than morning (opposite to HPT).

All other signs sounding great though.

    Hope you catch the egg!

Thanks Buffy. Took Another OPK this evening and -ve again but a tonne more EWM sooo will test again tomorrow and see what's going on.

I read that the surge can happen really quickly which could have happened.

I wish I had a tiny camera so that I could see what was going on in there!!

Looking at your chart it looks like you O'ed on day 15-16. So... is there any chance you could already be pregnant? EWCM is a good sign of that, especially when its not co-inciding (sp?) with ovulation.

    Thanks Buffy!

MummaMia - my BBTs have remained low since CD15 which leads me to think i didn't O. I'd only be 7DPO today if I did O so it's probably too early to test anyway. I might test in a couple of days but I dunno. Gonna also keep doing OPKs just to see if j have another LH surge. My last cycle was 47 days so maybe it will be as long as the last time.

Also, when I fell PG last time my temps went up like a whole degree. Haven't seen anything like that so far with this cycle.

Who knows what the hell is going on! Drives me mental sometimes!

Thanks MM. Will keep testing for a few more days and keep taking me BBTs in the morning... my last cycle was 47 days so I hope it happens a bit sooner this time round.

Just FYI for anyone who reads this post looking for information about LH surge and ovulation, it looks like I O'd when my OPK was negative (according to fertility friend) so it is possible to O without a detectable surge of LH.

I also O'd 10 days earlier than my last cycle so looks like the metformin may be having the desired effect!

Hun don't forget that as you said, the LH surge can come in a quick burst, and it's recommended to use an OPK at around 2pm as that's the best time to catch the surge. Dunno if you knew that, but it may explain why you didn't get a positive test. Good luck in your tww!

Yeah, I also have PCOS which can cause alot of false positives. No TWW here unfortunately - didn't BD at the right time this cycle. Not to worry! Only just stared TTCing so early days still!

If you are really unsure of when you are ovulating, BD every second day from when your period finishes, until it starts again. It's a failsafe way to BD at the right time (That's if you are actually ovulating!)

Ahhh bummer! Well, I'll be stalking for your next cycle. Something that often helped me was remembering that each cycle was an opportunity to learn a little more Best of luck

Helps if DH wanted to BD more often than the status quo... But that's a whole other post for a whole other time!

Yep, a really good way to look at it. At the moment DH isn't all that keen for #2 so I'm using this time to work out what it going on with my body and trying not todrive myself crazy in the process
