So, ds has developed a facination with his penis. He is constantly touching it or pulling it out of his pants.

I don't really have an issue with him being curious and I know that this type of thing is normal. My issue is he's doing it in public and at friends places etc. he doesn't even seem to realise he's doing it most of the time.

I'm trying to say to him that it's private and you're only allowed to touch when we are out if he needs to do a wee. He's only three so the idea of privacy doesn't make much sense to him.

I dont know if I'm handling it the right way or not. I dont want tio make a huge deal and embarrass him or make him think that what he is doing is wrong or anything.

Gah, I just dont know how to get him to stop.

Anyone been in a similar situation?

My little man who's 4 likes to get his out around the house. He thinks it's hillarious.
I try not to say anything and just ignore it. Just like swearwords, it passes.
DS for about 12 months walked around everywhere with his hand constantly over his crutch. Everywhere we went. Everyone used to get a good little giggle out of it. It was pretty funny.

My nephew went through a similar thing at the same age your DS is. I think it's something he grew out of. I hope so anyway, he's 17 now! LOL. I can't remember what we said to him though, sorry.

my nephew still does it, he is 10
i just say "oi" whenever i see him doing it, i think now its just a dirty habit for him

Hehe boys! I tell both my boys to "put your diddle away" or "stop playing your diddle" many times a day. Its said in a nice or laughing way cause we dont wanna make a biggy out of it. Im told it will pass

Going through the same thing ATM! We never say it's dirty or naughty just that their penis is for weeing and after they touch it they will have to clean their hands. But truly I've seen grown men worse than my kids!

I've had a few amusing penis moment with DS.

Having an estate agent come round to photograph the house. DS was left watching Wall-E while we spoke. Needed to kick DS out the sitting room for a pic - he stands up and I hadn't realised he had an erection due to his playing.

My sister visited and DS decided to strip off (he's a naturalist at heart). I made him put pants on - he then has his penis over the top of his pants and enjoys making it "jump and have fun" - although without hands this time.

Came into my bedroom one morning upset. "It's my penis - it won't go down." Oh dear, having to keep a straight face and explain that sometimes his penis does that and it will be OK.

DH is almost constantly telling DS off for having hands in his trousers/pants - I tend to ask him to save it for when he's alone, we don't want to see that. Nursery have had to do the same. Oh cripes, what's school going to be like?

It's like a comfort toy that doesn't go away really.

Oh joy....all the fun stuff I've got to look forward to once this bubba is born - although I can say from experience that girls can be just as fiddly as boys on occasion It's a natural, healthy part of life and they do eventually learn that it's something best kept from when they're alone.

Like you, I didn't want to make a big deal out of it or make DD feel like exploring her own body was somehow "bad" - I'd keep going with how you've been handling it as much as possible, explaining to be gentle and that it's for "alone time" etc.

DS is not doing it out and about atm and we aren't really at friends houses much so it hasn't come up there either but at home it is pretty constant. If he is watching tv and it isn't obvious I tend to ignore it, if he is sitting on me doing it I tell him that he does that in his room not out here in the loungeroom (or on me or anyone else).

OMG ... I have no idea how I'm going to handle it if/when my boys start this caper. Fortunately DS1 (3) isn't too worried about his "willy" just yet. Both kids like to have a waggle when they're in the bath ... but that's the extent of their willy waggling so far. LOL! Oh the joy of boys!

Ds isn't too bad. Unless zonked in front of a movie. But he WON'T wear clothes at home & does like to stir with it. (Telling dd2 to look while pulling back his foreskin... not pretty!)

A friends ds though, is the same. Everything he does is with doodle in hand, or finger in foreskin...
