we kiss on the lips. I don't mind family kissing her on the lips but am hesitant to let anyone else (even closest of friends) kiss her on the lips.
We have had issues with DD wanting to do "married" kisses (AKA a pash as seen on various kids shows) with everyone. I had to put my foot down on that one as she has just turned 3 at the time...
We do "crazy" kisses or "attack of the kisses" which is smothering in kisses rapidly all over the face whilst tickling... she loves that
I kiss on the lips and I agree with Leasha, the world has gone kinda crazy. I figure my kids came out of my vagina, suckled at my breast, watch me wee, shower with me so what's the big deal.
DH on the other hand doesn't like to lip kiss. I just asked him why and he said it's an intimate thing just for us.
Oh well, the kids get their fair dose of sloppy lip kisses from me

You teach your children. Although i was never taught it was just something i knew it was only for my mum. I also don't want my children to grow up never knowing how to show affection.
While yes i did have an affectionate mother when i was younger but that changed when my step father came along hes not at all affectionate and so my mother stopped being. We never got goodnight kisses, or hugs and i don't want that for my kids. I'm not saying ill kiss my kids on the lips until they are adults but when its kids i don't think it matters.
It doesn't "damage" a child if anything makes them feel more secure and we love them.
And my 6 year old neices don't like kisses anymore, they think its "gross" lol so i think they get to an age where they themselves say no. And these are the girls i hugged and gave kisses to from when they were babies.
I kiss my kids on the lips and all over their head lol
I think of ppl find it dirty or sexual they have a bad mind I do understand how ppl would find it gross from the germs side of things cos god knows you often get a side order of boogers or slobbers with it too
Lip Kissers here too!Never thought any differently about it until this thread came along. For me it is more a question of, Why wouldnt I kiss my kids on the lips??? not why would I?? Does that make sense?
There is nothing dirty, inappropriate, perverted or grose about me and my children sharing a good old lip kiss. In fact I find it more strange that you wouldnt do it, but thats just me.
I personally dont think lip kissing makes kids feel more secure and loved. Dd knows she is loved, we hug & i kiss her on the cheek and forehead.
This is MY personal opinion on lip kissing. No one will ever change my mind on how i feel about that.
Each to their own tho.
I think the point she is making is that is how they are born so why should people find us kissing our children on their lips be seen as "gross" or "dirty".
Wow 4 pages! I think like everything in life, people have their own opinions, some strong, some meh and alot does come down to your own parenting although I have to say I don't remember kissing my parents on the lips at all, although maybe they stopped after a while or something. Must ask mum. We are European though so cheek kissing, 2-3 times is totally normal - even for people who you have only just met.
Thinking about this more my closest gf and I lip kiss on occasion and thinking about it now, it is usually when we have been having a D&M, one of us is a bit emotional or things have been a bit hairy. We have both been through hell and back in different situations and been there for each other and are very close. We kiss on the cheek whenever we say hello or goodbye, and I know some friends don't do that, so I guess it just depends and changes for different people. She is also the only person other than family that kisses my kids on the lips and we are totally cool with that.
I think there is a BIG difference between kissing someone whether it is kids/friends on the lips as an affectionate thing and totally different to how I kiss DH on the lips.
I'm babbling now but the quick peck goodnight etc. is different to a lingering kiss with a lover.
We always get big slobbery kisses on the lips from DD, it's funny though cos if she's not sure about someone and they go to give her a kiss she turns her cheek.![]()
:yeahthat: I have a friend where we are really affectionate, we have been friends since we were 13 and we have always hugged, held hands and kissed each other. Some people look at us and call us "lesbie friends" but we are both very comfortable with our sexualities we are both very much straight. We have on occasion pashed but its never meant anything if anything its our 'party trick'. But more its a comfort thing, we both got drunk after her boyfriend left her and she broke down and i kissed her on her cheek and told her it was ok and i held her. I'm not afraid to express how i feel and i sure as hell don't care what others think about it. DP knows im an overly affectionate person.
ETA: I just realised that is way off topic but i guess what i was saying is im affectionate and i will be to my kids.

There is no right or wrong answer to this question, i was just curious as to how people kiss their kids
From reading most of the responses im guessing it just depends on how you were brought up KWIM?
I know i felt loved and secure when i used to get kisses from mum and dad, and i suppose i want my children to feel that too.
I want them to know that if they are upset there is nothing wrong with coming to mummy for a big cuddle and kiss
But yes that was also the point of the question, on 'the view' they were saying how some people find it 'dirty' 'perverted' 'gross' to kiss your kids on the lips but as someone said most babies are born through their mothers vagina, they are also BREAST fed - is this also 'dirty' 'perverted' and 'gross'??
No its not, so why should we be made to feel like giving our kids a quick kiss on the lips is wrong?
I kiss my kiddies on the lips, actually i kiss them all over their pretty little faces lol!!My family kiss them on the lips if they want to but i never make my kids kiss anyone if they really dont want to. I kiss my littlest nephew on the cheeks or forehead cause he is still pretty little and i wouldnt want to give him anything... actually i dont even know what his mummy would prefer .... my other Nephew goes straight for the slobbery lip kiss!!
Well I think you're all wrong. (And you're all right). I don't think this conversation should be about affection vs. morality vs. peversion, but rather a simple observation of cultural difference.
Let's look at this from a bigger perspective. From an anthropologist's view, different cultures have different standards about where it's ok to touch other people, depending on your level of intimacy with them. So for example, it's ok if a non-family-member male touches you lightly on the back while helping you climb down from something, but not ok if he touches you on the butt in the same situation. The same sort of cultural differences exist *very strongly* when it comes to heads & faces, and for that reason we all have different standards about where is and isn't ok to touch and kiss, even our most intimate friends, family members and lovers.
Unless a baby being born through a vagina is dirty or perverted then these arguments don't make sense.
I think this is spot on. I don't kiss my bub on the lips (but if she kisses me on the lips i wouldn't have a problem with it). I also don't kiss anybody else on the lips other than my DH. I also don't want anyone else to kiss my baby on the lips.
However, if i think about other people kissing their own kids on the lips, i don't have any issues with it. If that is what they are comfortable with, good on them.
