Hi, I am against controlled crying but have a second baby Turing into a terrible sleeper, after having a shocker first baby, I dont want to go there again so happy learn new tips if any can recomened a gentle sleep school that would be awesome.
Hey Buzzie, I posted in a similar thread about my experience at the O'Connell Centre in Melbourne. I can't link to it from my phone but maybe someone else might!
Mitcham Private. DS2 and I went there in Nov last year he was 4 months at the time. He would only sleep on the breast as soon as he was put in his bassinet he would cry hysterically. We tried everything inc rocking, patting, co-sleeping. He was just totally different to DS1, within 24hrs he was the star pupil loll. We watched him on an infra red monitor to see what he was doing we worked out that he liked to be wrapped (he would struggle at home until he came free) but in a one angel wrap, that he liked a teddy (one of those squares of fleece with a teddy head in the middle/taggie) which he proceeded to pop on his face! He then slept!! The nurses were great as with all places you have the ones you click with and the ones you stay away from lol. but all in all I had a great experience. They are there to support you, give you options. soothe you when you're about rip your hair out. The food is good I had both my boys at Waverley Private another Ramsay Hospital and they do great food! I still keep in touch with one of the mums I met there and another I already knew from when we had our first bubs we just didn't know that we were both waiting to go in lol. They take 4 babies above 12wks (I think) and one baby under as the less than 12 weeks sleeps in the room with you and the other have a cot in a small room of there own. I had to get a referral from my dr. or MCHN to go and they only take them up to the age of one.
I think I paid approx. $250 boarding fee for me and the rest was covered by PI as baby is the patient. You can go out as you please if DS2 woke up after 40mins and was hard to re-settle we could go for a walk to the park (around the corner) or to the shops etc
DS2 we still battle with at sleeps, but we have got to know him now. He now sleeps in a sleeping bag, pushes all the covers off himself (or moves up to the top of the cot or lays on them) and sleeps on his front with his head faced into the mattress 7/10 sleeps. He doesn't like to conform to SIDS policies loll. Nearly forgot because he sleeps without covers he like his room to be a toasty 20 otherwise he wakes numerous times. He's just quirky! I can say that now he's asleep with little fuss tonight but on a bad night I'm giving him away ;-P
