It's probably something they can disable if they press the right buttons. Or maybe you can just ring the customer service people and demand they remote unlock it every time you drive.
Mine is totally a serial killer car. I have to unlock the door for them to get out in the morning at school.
Liz, do you mean in case of an accident and safety? Because they doors automatically unlock when a collision occurs, it's a safety feature (like the air bags).
ETA: And yes you can turn it off through the control panel.
I stopped using child locks when the kids started getting in the car and putting their seatbelts on by themselves.
