DD is settling (fairly) well at around 8pm/8.30pm at the moment ) give or take a few difficult days when she doesn't get over until 9.30pm. She wakes frequently in the night for feeds (a whole other post) and is generally awake at around 6.30am for the day.
This suits us really well as it means that DH gets to see her, and we can have dinner together as a family.
Is this too late though?
Your thoughts are appreciated.
Dd1 and dd2 at 7.30, Ds anytime from 8 to 10pm. He will end up in the same routine as the girls once he is on solids, crazy play with dad, dinner, bath, read a book then bed.
ds is usually out by 8.30 due to meds his on that help him relax to sleep if not he ist sleeping till around 1am his too fidgetty n is mind goes into over drive but he gets up around 7 am
and dd even though she is only 6 weeks she is in bed from 8.30-9pm n sleeps through till bout 4am or even 6 am then back to sleep till 8am
so its very good i think u just have to work with what u have at the moment n let that become a routine before u try to adjust it otherwise they dont adapt to it right n then u go back to being all ova the place iykwim??
if it works well for u guys hun i wouldnt worry.
fwiw both DD's are down by 730, its just worked out that way which is awesome, occasionally DD1 plays for a while in her room b4 she goes to sleep, but thats cool
I think if it works for you - it's fine. She'll soon let you know if she's not happy with it
Once Moo got into a routine, he's always gone to bed early. It used to be 6pm but I've managed to stretch him out to at least 6:30pm for quite some time now. It's not set in stone though we're pretty flexible and the last few nights he didn't go down until after 9pm. He'd napped late and just wasn't tired.
If its working for you thats all the matters!
From 3 months DD was 6.30 till 6.30 then at about 6 months she went 17.30 till 7.30 and now at 3 she is 8.30 till 7.30 8 oclock - generally. No Night feeds since 3 months but does wake up once and a while if sick or teething.
DD goes down anywhere between 6.30 and 7pm for us, she is normally well and truly exhausted by then. She naps twice a day so it does depend on when she's up from her afternoon one. We wanted to eat together too but she couldn't stay up that late (we used to eat round 7/7.30pm) so we moved our dinner earlier til around 5.30/6pm. Was really hard to get used to but now it's easier, and it's worth it to eat as a family.
I'm with the PP, if it's working for you guys then stick with what works
if it works for you, (and she is getting enough sleep) then its never to late!
my dd is 10 months, and is usualy asleep by 11pm, my boys are 3 & 5 i try to have them in bed by 8:30- 9 the latest but it dosent always happen. nights like tonight, the boys were being difficult for bed and diddnt go till 11ish, so dd wouldnt go to sleep untill 12, as she likes "her" time when there in bed, but she will probably sleep untill 12 tommorow now (after her early hour bottle and cuddle) im hoping to start her going to bed earlyer gradualy week by week, so the rest of this week ill be aiming for 10:30, but thats just as im needing to have kiddie free time and bed earlyer these days!
when we had ds1 i couldnt sleep at night for the first few months, so he would be up till 4-5am, but we would sleep untill 4-5pm so it was right for us at the time kwim?
hats off to you for having an 8 month old into a routine. my DS at that age was still feeding/ crying/screaming/totally awake for most of the night. no matter what I tried nothing worked. Now though at 17 months he goes down at 7pm and sleeps through to 9am, with a 1-2 hr nap through the day.
If it works for you and your bubba then leave it be, and pass on your tips for getting a bub into a good routine
DD goes down between 8 and 8:30 and will sleep til 7am. I tried putting her down earlier but she was waking at 4am and not resettling. Now she's into the 8ish routine she doesn't fight me and gathers her water cup before saying "bye bye" to her dad and pottering off to bed. We were putting her down at 7ish but she would just fight us so much. She doesn't seem to need a lot of sleep and will only have a 1 and a half hour nap in the day.
DD goes to bed between 7.30 & 8. You might find as she gets older and starts dropping day sleeps that she'll be tired earlier and will want (need) to go to bed earlier. But for the moment if what you are doing is working fine for her and you, then don't fix what isn't broken
Thanks everyone. I just wondered what others do. You're right, we do what works for us. I'm just currently struggling with the length of time it takes sometimes to get DD over to sleep. It can range from 20 minutes to 2.5 hours. *sigh*
Whatever works for you works for you. Jazz is the same. Some nights its incredibley frustrating but she sleeps better going to bed a bit later, and it's her routine I guess. She gets up ridiclously early though. I struggle through the later nights, and Shel struggles through the mornings but it works for us so Whatever works. Don't let anyone elses choices make you feel like your choices are wrong, when they're actuall right for you.
Your DD is really still very young, and it still takes jazz ages to fall asleep too. Some kids are just like that Doesn't make it easier, but at least you know she's still onthe range of normal
Thanks guys. Yeah, she has a good wee routine. We have dinner, then she has some messy food play with daddy, bath time, quiet time while we get her jammies on, depending on how tired she looks we sometimes all just sit and have quiet play then it's bedtime with the Music for Dreaming CD on, story time and a feed to sleep. Some nights I let her roll around in the cot which is attached to our bed if she doesn't look too tired. It's really 50/50 whether she goes down quickly or quietly.
