Does anyone have some good tips on how to get a 12mth old to sleep from 7 til 7 (or even later)? Currently my son keeps waking at any time between 5:30am - 7am (mostly around 6am) and he wont go back to sleep.
He has been a really good sleeper but over the last few months he just wont do it and it's running me into the ground as I am 5 mths pregnant and very tired!
He usually gets about 1 1/2hrs sleep during the day and eats heaps so i'm not sure what I am doing wrong
my paed said it is quite normal for little ones to wake at 5am for the first few years.
DD has rarely slept past 5am and is bed at 7pm. with no day sleep.
DS (16 months) is up around 5am as well with a day sleep. Plus will wake a no. of time int he night as he is teething.
You arent doing anything wrong. it is perfectly normal. I was exactly the same as you ( my 2 are 15 months apart in age). And you dont get more sleep, even after #2 is born i am still waiting for a full night sleep and a sleep in past 5am (16 months post #2!!).
Make sure you are eating well and have rests when you can in the day.

My husband just says that my son is prob just not tired anymore but how am I ment to deal with him waking at different hours and then a newborn??
I'm also thinking of putting him into occasional care a few hours a week but not sure if this will make sleeping better or worse?
I have tried putting him down at 7:30pm but the later I put him down the less time I have to sit and enjoy adult conversation and dinner! It also hasn't done anything with the sleeping pattern he still wakes whenever he thinks is a suitable time!
I just don't understand maybe he has sensed there is going to be change in the household and has begun waking through the night?
Nah, you're not doing anything wrong. It's pretty normal for little 'uns to be early birds.
DS is the same. You could try putting covers over the windows to keep it darker longer... it hasn't worked for us but you never know.
We put cardboard over his windows at an early age as he wasnt sleeping during the day very well and this worked well. We are going to be slowly taking it down in the next month or so as it starts to get darker of a morning and see what happens.
Maybe he needs only an hour during the day for a nap? Most people think he is older than 12mths he looks more like an 18mth old toddler he is so tall and big built!
You're not doing anything wrong. I have a 2 year who still wakes normally 1 to 2 times a night. And a 5 month old who is currently waking about every 2 hours+. She was sleeping through or waking once a night until the last few weeks. I think your body get used to not much sleep. Dh doesn't cope with it as well. The worst thing is you can't sleep when the baby sleep because you still got to care for the toddler. Can you go to bed earier?
