Question XMAS FRUIT CAKE where to buy a really nice one for under $40 ?

    Hi all,

I wanna save MIL baking a Xmas cake this year (as she has enough to do) and i promised to bring one this Xmas day !!

Can anyone recommend where to buy a yummy Xmas fruit cake with icing on it for under $40 (if that's possible) ??

and before anyone asks why don't i bake one well have you tried my cooking, lol

    TIA for any suggestions

Make the icing yourself, but if you want CAKE not PUDDING, go the Lion's Club.
$25 for the large one, and they are fab. Plus the money all goes to the Lion's Club.

I get 2 every year - one for Christmas the other to eat all for the rest of the year! lol

They aren't iced, but as I said, that is fairly easy and time efficient to make yourself, or you can just make (read: buy, pour into a gravy boat and claim you made it) a yummy brandy custard

I was in Brumbys today and they had lovely looking cakes for $25. Not iced though.

I third the Lions club cakes. You can also get some nice ones with nuts and glace fruit on them instead of icing as well.

I fourth the Lions club cakes!!!!

And to decorate, if you want to, buy some marzipan, roll it out and using Christmas shapes, cookie cutter them out and paint them bright Chrissie colours, wrap in tinsel

The bakery I work at sell them undecorated for $15, puddings are the same price. I was astounded when I saw the same size puddings in Coles for over $30.

Maybe try a small local bakery Smiles.

thanks heaps ladies, looks like Lions Club is a winner here (and i might attempt to add the marzipan icing if i'm game enough) ... would you believe i saw the Lions club cake stall at the shopping centre the other day and i wondered what they would be like so that's certainly helped me

hey Tinks Ads was talking about getting one from Coles but i didn't want to get one from there and didn't know how tasty they would be for that price

oh wow so sorry for my super late update but thought id let you ladies know that suggested the Lions Club Xmas Fruit Cake that is was absolutely delicious

so moist and tasty and even though would you believe DP covered it with marzipan icing it seriously didnt even need it !

and the biggest surprise was they only had the 3kilo cake left at the Lions Club stall (which is a really heavy cake and big enough) yep only $14

Even MIL who usually makes the fruit cake each Xmas said it's a winner and would be happy to have the Lions Club Xmas cake each year !!

Thanks heaps ladies who suggested the Lions Club Cake Will be buying them from now on for Xmas Day
