I just rang the vet. We gave the vet the go ahead for the surgery. We have to give Winston another shot. He has been too good to us not to, we will have to really tighten the belt but I dont think either of us could live with not giving him another chance. This will be the last surgery we can afford to give him though, not that we can afford this one but you know what I mean. Thanks again girls

Stones are such a horrible things... and very costly.
my parents dog had them (cant remember what type though) some can be prevented with a really strict diet...... my parents dog had 4 bouts and 2 surgeries over 2.5 years for them......She is now on a high quality urinary formula wet food twice a day, and no other food. I think the good ones are hills science and royal canin, they are expensive, but worth it. They were told no dry food (by the vet), and one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar per day (but the vinegar was by a pet natropath, not a vet, so probably ask your vet if it would be harmful or not). She hasnt had any bouts in 2-3 years now

I was going to suggest what Caz just did. Talk to your vet about a specific diet. There are a few options available. I hope your doggy gets better soon poor thing.

Thanks Caz and Kazzo for the diet tips. Unfortunately the stones Winston has are the ones not related to diet. I think the vet said calcium oxidite stones?? or something like that so unfortuantely there is nothing they can do or tell us to do to prevent it happenieng in the future. That is probably the worst thing about it as if we could do something to prevent this we would This type of stone is also not common in Australia so they will send the stones off to the USA for further testing as it is more of a common one over there.

That is very unfortunate and I did think after I posted that I am sure if you could have had him on the diet the Vet would have already said so after his last surgery. I hope you can get a few answers from the states.
