We have salmon faverolles - very pretty birds, but we have found them to be not so great layers, even though they are meant to be. They are great eaters though :P Rather rare breed, only about 200 breeding pairs left in Australia, so they are a good one to keep going. Just a note, the "s" on the end is part of the name, not an addition to mean multiple - just some useless chook trivia.
I am not sure if this will be the final place, I mean its light enough to move around and it WILL have a run which is still in transit.
Can I please get some good honest opinions please on best position. If I shift it to the other side of the tree it will have shade from 12 onwards.
I am just not sure what will be the best way to do things.
ALOS there is a metal tray that pulls out for easy cleaning should I pop straw down on this? we have HEAPS of straw LOL
Yes to the straw. Not quite knowing where the sun crosses I would be inclined to keep it where it is rather than going to somewhere where there is too much shade, unless it would only be the house in the shade and the run in the sun. It looks like mobile enough that you could move it around for the seasons. Where it is for winter, behind the tree for summer. Chickens will go off the lay if there isn't enough sun.
Yeddi the sun basically crosses at about 11 o'clock (if the chook coop was the clock LOL) I think I read somewhere, or someone told me that they like their nests in the darkest spot which they think it the safest ??
I will have 2x1 metre runs at the front and I am actually thinking I MIGHT add another run at the back and just adjust the direction a bit.
The beauty with these is I can add an extra coop or run at a later date if I want to expand to more chook ... for now (one step at a time Nae don't get ahead of yourself) I will just make do with these
