MiniMax- I think you might be right about the 'tough dog' thing. DP will be naming it "Chainsaw" so maybe a cavalier or poodle wouldnt fit that name As for the hair, I understand dogs shed, I dont know if any creature could possibly lose any more hair than my cat though, argh.
