Oh It is so awful seriously, Its bad so many animals are left at the pound but I dont understand people who just dump them on the side of the road or in the bush, makes me so sad. She sounds like she was a great dog though and I bet she love you so much!
I got an email today about another Weimaraner that's been surrendered by the owner because she can't handle it in her courtyard! WHY get a big dog when you only have a courtyard is beyond me.....some people just don't get it. Dogs are like KIDS in a way! You can't just shove them away and forget about them thinking they can take care of themselves! grrrrrrr!
The tenants in our house have a border collie and it apparently barks all day too......very annoying for my neighbour.....but what can i do! The dog doesn't pay the rent!
I really hope you find your pooch soon. It might just come by when you least expect it!
Why can't there be a compulsory licensing system where the home and potential owners have to get assessed before being allowed to get a dog? I know they assessed us when we adopted our current dog. Although it was only questions and I could have lied through my teeth I guess....
Because places like "pets paradise" and all the crappy pet stores wouldnt make money. Imagine if every person who wasnt fit for pet ownership was denied the right(lets assume that hypothetically the seller was a psychic). No-one would make money, but I reckon there would be faaaar less animals in shelters. Wow, Im tired and posting delirious rubbish
Greyhound greyhound greyhound! Picture a big cat that is good with kids, just the right height that you don't need to bend to pat them, will laze about and doesn't need to be walked 8 hours a day (*cough* cattle/border collie), bit funny looking, and rarely barks. What more do you need? Our dog is greyhound kelpie. He looks like a doberman x. Best dog ever despite the four homes he had before us. The most gentle and loving dog ever. We will rescue a pure greyhound next. They are such good dogs.

Ive mentioned a greyhound actually one I saw on pet rescue to DP but"It isnt Chainsaw" apparently(see earlier post) I would love a soft couch potato but not my choice
Thats ok But I thought maybe some other people will also be reading this thread and in the same position. They are often not thought of first and the more people hear about them being great pets, maybe less of them need to be euth. from the greyhound racing industry.

Krys - They are fantastic....I've mentioned them before on this thread! You are so right, the biggest pussy cats ever....so so so Lazy!
Peach - I've grown up with Weimaraners, they are beautiful (and could probably be a bit of a chainsaw!) but they are challenging! They are clever and need lots of stimulation or else they are a bit distructive!
There are so many things to consider when getting a pooch....that's why I'm happy with my Old English.....They are devine (in my eyes!) but hard work with grooming but not much else!
Peach - Mummuytummy is onto something there I think. We have a rescued LabX too & she is just beautiful. Would follow me to the ends of the earth & back & so outgoing falls in love with everyone she meets & soooo adores kids (my friends kids). Out of all our dogs she is the one that at 7yrs old will still play fetch utill she wears me out (not the other way round ) She was also 12 months old when we got her.
Generally Labs as younger dogs can be extremely boisterous & energetic (sometimes a little too much for kids) but the Lab X seems to work beautifully.
Yep - we have another Lab X now....this time crossed with Border Collie but looks mostly lab. I have mentioned him before in this thread. Energetic, but calm when needed to be, easily trained, fantastic with children and other pets. Oh, and he doesn't have the appetite of a lab either, would rather play fetch!! I know you are put off by Border Collie, but honestly it sounds like that dog is bored stiff.... they are very high energy and super intelligent so the more you keep them thinking the better they are. We do things like hide his food around the backyard for him to find before he can eat it. Toys of course and as much frisbee and ball throwing as we can!! (But that's his particular favourite, not necessarily for all BCs)
UPDATE!
Just wanted to thank everyone who replied in this thread. Last thursday we finally got our newest family member a 5 month old Staffy who is everything that we wanted and more, he has the most beautiful nature(well a bit of a sook actually) and is great with DD and our cat. We ended up getting him from Best Friends Rescue who I found through the Pet Rescue site. We love him soooo much!
We have a pug X from Pug rescue in Melbourne, he is wonderful so gentle and just such a good dog(apart from the weeing indoors)
I know never to leave children unsupervised with pets but he is so so so good with children, TBH he just rolls over and waits for a tickle and gives them a nudge, they love him too.
The good thing about a small dog (we have had boxers) is that they dont need as much walking, round the block in the evening is enough during the week, then out to the park on weekends, also we just pick him up if we need to hehe
DH thougt he the dog was so boring when we first got him as he was so quiet and timid, but not now lol
He was found in a box with about 5 dead puppies and the pound phoned pug rescue as they were going to put him to sleep as no one showed an interest in him, he has funny front legs that look like they have been broken and cant weight bear without moving positions for long, but is healthy, and can run, jump and is not fussed by his legs.
Yay Peach!! I've just read all the posts in this thread and you've certainly done your research and I'm sure that your new staffy will be lucky to have you caring for him.
It breaks my heart to see how many dogs are left to their own devices. I have a beagle and a ****er spaniel, neither from shelters, but both from registered breeders who absolutely gave us the run through to make sure we were sound when getting the pups. The beagle owner cried when we picked up our pup. It kills me that so many people look at a dog like a beagle and say, oh they're cute I'll have one, without doing any research. Beagles are HARD WORK but once you've got them trained, they are the most beautiful animal.
