have you tried the rescue shelters and RSPCA? Also there's websites like petlink who have sections for animals free to good home.
They're pretty hard to come by at the moment, it's not their season. Within the next few weeks though, you should have them coming out your ears!
I think they're coming soon! I was at pet shop in Thomastown, Victoria the other day, and they had some adorable kittens. Although, seriously - what kitten isn't adorable???
