My Labradoodle Ebony is 9 years old and she gets 1 cup of the food with extra bikkies (for her teeth).

However she is rather podgy...but she is old and slow so it's more likely caused by a lack of activity rather than overfeeding.

Also, instead of rice you can use pasta, it's probably a little better for them instead of white rice (I usually use brown rice for Ebby)

Another way to do it is to stick all the ingredients in a slow cooker...that way you can just leave it to cook all day and all the goodness in the meat is retained...great if you cook it with a cheap, fatty, marrow filled hunk of meat!

There's a great sticky at the top of this forum about raw feeding that you may be interested in. We feed mainly raw here and I find it great for our dog, and you can tweak the recipes/feeds to suit what you can find. If you're the main pooper scooper it makes for a much easier job too! Might be worth looking into and see if it suits you - I realise it's not for everyone or not for every dog!

adding cracked eggs is also brilliant for them
we used to by pet mince from the butcher(all the left over meaty/offal bits) mix in mixed veg rice then freeze it in batches..
