We have an 11yr old siberian husky (female)
up til late this arvo, she was a happy content playful dog......then she became lathargic, unhappy and just plain not herself.....
I watched her for a bit and noticed she was cleaning herself down there alot, told DH who checked her out and saw some puss coming out of her...not alot but enough to be concerned....
Being not only a weekend but a long weekend, finding a Vet that was open that was local was hard, the only one we could get into was an emergency vet 25min away......
so we put on her harness and lead and she perked up, DH decided to take her for a walk and see how that went, she came back a little happier, so we let her go for a bit, about 3hrs later we decided to take her in, she was the same and not looking good.....
$302 later all we know is that it could be an Ovary infection (which could be life threatening) or a bone lodge in her tummy.....they wanted to charge us $1600 to keep her in overnight and do xrays and ultrasound......payable when we picked her up, unfortunately we dont have that money laying around, so asked what we could do? he said to give her some antibiotics and meds and keep an eye on her......she had a fever aswell........so he gave her an injection and some meds, sent us home with some meds to take twice daily and told to bring her in if she got any worse.....
So being a public holiday tomorrow, we have to wait til tue to get into a normal hours clinic and be reassesed, as we are able to get it cheaper and on payment plan if we do this.....
so we are praying she is ok until tue.....please say a little prayer for her..... she is a well loved part of the family here and me being so close to birth (i could go anyday now, another story) i really dont want to think about her leaving us now......
Oh your poor puppy and family. Having a sick pet is just awful particularly because you can't always get them the treatment they need when they need it. Fingers crossed the ABs do something and come Tuesday a treatment plan will be more straight forward (and accessible financially!!).
wow I hope she's ok. Assuming she's not desexed (infected ovary comment) I'd be worried about pyometra and leaving it is pretty dangerous. If the vet doesnt think it's pyometra though perhaps it's just a mild infection. And without sounding harsh, if she's leaking "pus" and it is pyometra, it's much easier to treat open pyometra than closed.
I hope that the ABs help and that you get to the bottom of it soon - poor girl. *hugs*
Thankyou everyone - she is still the same, although at times she does pick up just a little.......
EssTee - we are keeping a real close eye on her, its a possibility it could be that.....we feel bad that we couldnt let the vet do what he wanted but money is real tight at the moment and we dont even have that amount sitting in a bank account
As DH is back at work tomorrow, its up to me, my pg belly and 2 boys to take her into the vet (oh yay lol) - def taking her in and getting them to look her over, we just seriously couldnt afford what the emergency vet was going to cost us, if it wasnt a public holiday today i wouldve taken her in today......
I hope tomorrow brings some good news, or atleast affordable news......

Thinking of you today naomi54... take care and try not to stress. If the vet has a payment plan and they can work out pretty quickly what it is, that's all positive. I agree that emergency vets charge the earth, and they expect it all up front most of the time. It's a lot to ask anyone regardless of how much their pets mean to them.
