My old staffy could easy clear our 6ft fence, despite 2 walks a day and an evening jog not to mention as many toys as the kids he still got out.

Our current dog is a staffy x and he hasn't escaped yet but we do live on almost 3 acres now so he has plenty of land to roam/play if only I could stop him from bark at 2am everyday lol

Sounds like he's looking for company. Can you borrow the neighbour's German Shepherd and see if your staffy is still interested in escaping while he's got company?

I was going to say that too. The only time our Staffy escaped was hwen the Jack Russell did. If the Jack Russell stayed in the yard then the Staffy had company. Maybe you could take your staffy to doggy play group too?

So finally figured out how he was getting out! Was using a barrel to jump up onto and climb over the fence. Moved barrel = problem solved? Wrong!
DH worked o/night last night, I got a phone call at 2.30am from a crazy guy telling me that I robbed his house and I left my dog there.
He's calling the cops and I'm gonna get it..... I ring DH to come home, cause I'm a scaredy cat.
He rushes home, just as the police pull up to talk to us about a burglary!
Got it sorted out and got buddy back.... He had gotten out by ripping 2 new fence palings off!

I had a staffy years ago and she was a great escape artist too. Check to see if there is anything around that your dog can use to leverage themselves against. My girl used to either use her neck and head to push against the door frame to climb over the gate we put in, or would use the two sides of the fence at the corner and sort of walk herself up and over. She also 'taught' three of our friend's dogs to escape.

We found the best thing was to give her lots of toys and also put some pet fencing wire at the top of the fence until she learned to stay in the yard - it was not strong enough to support her weight and created a visual barrier.

How long have you had him? I wonder what's spurring him on to keep getting out all of a sudden? Or is he a new addition? Sorry if I missed that somehow....

We've had buddy for almost 2 years. Had him since he was 12 weeks old.
I'm the first to admit that when Zoe was born 11 months ago, things changed and buddy was played with less....
But he never escaped until about 2 weeks ago

What a nuffy! Dad used to work at Epping police station as a traffic cop but he said there were a heap of loonies there. Was the guy's house actually burgled? And why the hell would you take your dog?

Apparently not- he just saw 2 strangers and a dog in his back yard.
I said to the police man- if I was going to rob someones house, would I take my dog and then leave him there with my phone number on his tag? Lol
