Hi everyone, just wanted to introduce myself!
I am new to Canberra (northside) and have been here about 4 months now. Didn't really know anyone when we came from Sydney... trying really hard to get out and meet people - it's hard to try and break in, but I am determined not to go insane! Doing the stay-at-home-mummy thing and have two little people to organise, my son who is 4 and a half and my little girl who will be 2 just before Christmas.
I have been on BB in the past, back in Sydney, and was really into it about five yrs ago when pregnant with my son, but haven't had much time since then... until now!
Would love to come to some of the Canberra monthly meet-ups if that's ok? I am hanging out to meet people like me and feel a bit less lonely!
(I am not sure what my ticker even looks like now - guess I'll see it when i post this reply!!)
Hope to be able to meet you all soon!
Definitely come along!! The more the merrier! :D
The next meet up is at Lollipops playcenter and cafe, Brand Depot (near the airport) on Thursday 14th Oct - from 10am.
We also have been meeting up on the north side of Canberra (Belconnen) lately as many of us girls live over this side of town. And if you ever just want to meet up with someone, feel free to post here or pm - even if everyone else is busy, I'm pretty footloose and fancy free :D
I look forward to meeting you.
Great stuff. Thanks Misty, would love to meet you all. We're in Nicholls, so not too far from Belconnen for meet-ups! My little fella has speech therapy on the 14th, so I am not sure if I will be able to change the day, but I will try for sure. Otherwise, if i can;t go, then I'd love to meet you all at the next meet-up or an informal north-side one sometime!
Cheers and looking forward to meeting you!
Sharon :)
Hi all,
I have been able to change Angus' speech therapy appointment to another day, so we will definitely be coming along on Thursday 14th! Looking forward to meeting you all and having a coffee with everyone!
Cheers,
Sharon :)
Look forward to meeting you! I will try to remember to take a sign that says "BB" - but if I forget, we will likely be sitting near the baby / toddler area just come over and ask people if they are from BB until you find us (you wouldn't be the first to do that :D )
We will hopefully get there next week. I will just have Amelia with me on the Thursday.
Also, if anyone needs a bath/change table, I have one to give away. See my thread in the free giveaways. Am keen to pass it on as I need the space.
Will have to try next meet up, I have Blueberries with Fia on Thursdays. She would be very cranky if she missed ballet.
Hope to see everyone tomorrow.
I am just giving fair warning that my kids were sick earlier this week, they appear to be fine now, but just thought I would warn everyone anyway ;)
Hi all,
I wont make it my older kids have dentist appoinments tomorrow at 11
we're still coming, with this weather i will go crazy if i dont get out of the house lol
i'd love to come but we're visiting DP's best mate his wife had their baby this morning :D
i'd love to come but after waking a few times overnight with Benjamin i could really do with a nanna nap
We're still coming! Looking forward to meeting whoever is there! Have a great day everyone else.
Sharon :)
Hi gals!
Just wanted to say a big thank you for this morning - we had a FAB time! It was soooo great to meet you all and i can't wait for the next meet-up. Who would have thought that there'd be so many cool and funky mums in Canberra!
My two monkeys are now safely snoozing away in their rooms (well, I think they're snoozing - maybe just resting - but who cares, right? They're in their rooms and I'm free for an hour or so to veg on the computer - yippee!!) so they have had an absolutely awesome time too.
I'd love to catch-up with you guys if anyone is ever bored as well! Just PM me (I've just worked out how all that works!) and I'd love to catch up. Mon and Tues I only have one munchkin which is a bit easier in terms of being able to have a good old chinwag and a coffee, and sometimes Thursdays as well.
Thanks again girls - hanging out for the next one already! You guys rock :)
Shazz :)
:( im sorry i missed out.
We need to plan a belco meet up :)
just not on a thursday morning
I had a ball. It was great to meet you Shazz. :)
Well lets make another date, a Monday or Tuesday at Belconnen somewhere.
Yay, sounds great. I'm in. Only one kidlet on those days so I will be a little more relaxed - yippee!
(P.S. Misty I found you on FB - yay! - and found mad4e and starbright on your page too - yay - hi girls. Have clicked to add you all to my FB page as my FB page was slightly tricky to find due to having to keep private from all my ex-students!).
Look forward to seeing you all again soon!
Cheers and have a tops night!
Shazz :)
How about tuesday next week everyone??? Belco Fresh food markets???
that sounds good to me, I can be there after 10.30am
thats ok with us
Hey
Im a new mummy, who would like to join a mothers group. My son is 5 weeks old. I would love to meet new mums and bubba's. I live in Isabella Plains but can meet anywhere. Was wondering when the next meet up will be?
Deana - We are meeting up next week at the playground at the Belconnen Fresh food markets (just up the road from westfeilds), tuesday next week (26th???) at 10.30am. You are more then welcom to come. If you cann't make it to that one, we will probably be having another about 2-3 weeks later out at Lollipops (brand depot) again. :D
i'd like to come if i can work out how to get the bus, i looked on the bus website and am more confused than i was before.
Bonham - Are you in MacGregor too?!? There are quite a few of us here - must be the place to live :D . Depending who is coming, we may be able to sort out a lift (I would give you one, but have no room in the car) or at the very least I can help you sort out buses.
misty: yep i'm in Macgregor in the new estate. I'll have both DD & DS with me on Tuesday. No worries that you can't give me a lift, really makes me determined to want to get my license sorted once & for all so i can drive myself around without relying on others or public transport.
*sneaking back in cause i miss you girls =( *
just a heads up Bonham, and i'm sure the other girls will vouch for this (unless its changed cause it has been a while..) anyway... public transport in the berra is much to be desired for...has been useless any times ive gone to use it lately, and before that when i got it regularly (which was a while) was slightly less useless but still useles..
how are you finding canberra??
Teirae: so public transport in Canberra is much like Sydney? unreliable. I'm finding that i like Canberra, we move around for DF's work, the weather here isn't much different to Cowra. Apart from venturing out & about when DF is home, i mostly stay at home so i'm looking forward to getting out & about on my own with the kids and meeting some lovely ladies.
Sounds good!! We will be there!! :-)
Public transport isn't the best here. All we have is the bus system, and you will discover that there isn't very good coverage to areas like MacGregor. I relied on the bus system for 4yrs, I only got my liscence in Feb of this year.
I think there are about 5 or so of us BB girls living in the new part of Macgregor now. I am not sure if they have buses running through the new area yet, you may need to walk into the old area or closer down to Kippax. First Time Mumma would know.
Hey Joanne i know the buses like the back of my hand (while they are SO unreliable and the bus drives are horrible) i'll hopefully be coming to this meet up i can catch the bus with you. Will you be bringing a pram or so you have a sling for DS?
Sadly I wont be able to make it as I work on Tuesdays. I am one of the mums in the new macgregor area. We should organise a meet in one of the parks there one day.
Yes that sounds good. Theres a park just up on Bryan Hudson and im off that street :) even though my bubba is far from being to play catching up for a chat is always good.
Hey KaileysMummy, that would be awesome i know you told me where to get the bus from & which 1 to get but i didnt write it down  i'll have the pram for DS and DD will walk (and hopefully not run off) i dont currently have a sling for DS. Are the bus drivers funny about having prams on the buses?.
A meet-up for the one's of us in Macgregor sounds like a great idea. KaileysMummy do you mean the fenced off grassed area at the front of the estate?.
I've been to that park before with my kids it is a nice park,
Kaileysmummy you must be up he street from us lol were on eric de Salis :)
the park up the road is fully fenced
My advice is if you can go without a pram on the bus, do so. Otherwise if you have a little umbrella stroller that is light and easy to carry on and off, use that. I don't think any of the disabled buses come up our way, so that means you will need to fold the pram up and carry it on yourself. The bus drivers aren't allowed to help, and some are downright rude and will drive off before you are even seated. Biggest tip - hand the baby to the driver while you load the pram (don't ask, just hand the baby over): then he cann't drive off until you are ready and you have someone to hold bubs while you are doing everything.
