    Playgroups in Brisbane

    Howdy.

Just wondering if anyone knows of a good playgroup in Brisbane (Charlie is almost 2 and Toby is 1 month old). I've never joined one before because I've been a bit nervous about it, but Charlie is really in need of some social interaction with kids his own age. I thought that if someone was able to recommend one to me I would feel better about going, rather than just turning up and not knowing anyone. I live on the Northside of Brisbane, but if there's a fabulous one a little bit further I don't mind travelling a short way.

    Thanks guys.

Kelle give Playgroup Australia a call. They have a website. They will be able to give you the number of your closest playgroup in you area.

    Hi Kellee,

I am in a similar boat to you at the moment as I have a 10 month old girl, Jayda, who is just starting to love other childen. I really want to join a playgroup by I'm nevous about it. Did you end up joining a group and if so did you and your children like it??

I'm in Albany Creek (Brisbane, Northside) and have a few places I could try locally but I'm not sure.

    Any suggestions??

    Thanks,

    Dana

    Hi there Dana.

I haven't had a chance to go to playgroup much recently, but the one I go to sometimes is Taigum Treasures at the Taigum Community Church next to the Taigum shopping centre. I usually go on Wednesdays (when I have a chance!) and it's pretty good, but they also have playgroups on Tues, Thurs and Fri. All the days are from 9.30 to 11.30. They have some great play equipment and they're all pretty friendly. PM me if you like for more info.

    Hi everyone!

I am moving up to Bracken Ridge (North Brisbane) from Sydney in about 5 weeks time and like many of you am looking for a mothers group. My husband is in the Navy and will be based in Brisbane. I have a 7 week old little boy Fraser and am starting in a mothers group down here but unfortunately will only be able to attend for a few weeks before we move. I have made inquiries with some of the community centres around my new area and also on the net but dont seem to be having any luck. Is it different in Brisbane than Sydney? Down here it is the norm that after coming out of hospital they put you in touch with your closest Early Childhood Centre who then organise a mothers group for all the new Mums. Maybe im just looking in the wrong place??

Does anyone know of any in or around the Bracken Ridge area or want to start our own group where we can meet for coffee/lunch/walks etc? I have also just joined a walking group down here for new Mums called strollercise. Its awesome and you get to bring bub along while you walk and do a few other exercises along the way. I noticed they have walking groups run by the Heart Foundation in Bracken Ridge and other areas but nothing aimed specifically at Mums with strollers. Would be great if anyone was interested in doing something like that also. Its not so fun on your own!! Would be a great way for us all to meet new friends and get our fitness back too!!

If anyone is interested in any of the above or knows if something is already up and running I would really appreciate hearing from you on here or at jodesgreen@hotmail.com

Thanks and hope to hear from you soon

    Hi Jodes
I am in Murrumba Downs which is like 5 minutes away from Bracken Ridge!!!
We have started a little mothers group with some of the other central brissy girls.. Mums in the Central Brisbane area.... But some of those girls are more in the immediate brisbane area and we are a fair bit further out from the city (about 30 minutes drive (35km).... 60 minutes in bad traffic!)
So I think we might do a northern suburbs meet also as there seem to be a few gals up this way too that cant make it in to the city.

Please feel free to email me on the_beat_goes_on33@hotmail.com.. I am on msn too I have added you into my contacts also if thats ok

I really look forward to chatting with you!
    Cheers
    Kirst

Jodes - I think the Brisbane City Council runs a walking group at Carseldine (about 5 minutes away from Bracken Ridge) on Tuesdays at around 10. You could call the council hotline to find out about it.

All the best with the move. I hope you settle in ok.

    Hi Kirst & Kellee,
Sorry I've taken a while to get back to you..in between new life with a baby, loads of visitors and getting ready for our move Ive been very slack with my emailing!! Thank you so much for your replies. Im definately going to check out the walking group Kellee, so thanks for the tip. I also spoke to the heart foundation who organise walks and they said they'd be happy to help me start my own if there was some interest in a Mums & Bubs walking group in our area, so us Mums can get together and get our fitness back and socialise at the same time!

Kirst, is anything happening with the mothers group? We move into our house on 23rd March, so another week, so Id love to join in after that if its all going ahead. Are you going back to work full time or just part time?

Thanks again, and ill speak to you soon,

    Jode
