We are moving to Rockingham next month from New Zealand and wondered whether there are any playgroups around with younger mum's (I am 23, happily married with an 18 month old Princess and TTC #2, quite laid back and looking for some new friends )
Hi! I would say welcome to BB, but I see you've been here for a while
I'm Liz, 25 and from Baldivis, which is 10 minutes away from Rockingham. I personally dunno about playgroups around Rockingham, but if you contact the Ameer St Child Health Nurse, I'm sure they'll be able to give you as much information as they can give you.
Also, Google is your friend
Thanks for your reply, Liz
I've been a member here for a wee while, but haven't made many posts.
This 'making friends' business is all very nerve-racking, hehe! I'll give google a try.
Also, I hope I don't sound rude by asking of playgroups with 'younger' mums.. its just that in my experience as a mummy so far, they are the least likely to look down on me! I guess I look younger than I am? lol!
Oh hun I know EXACTLY what you mean!
As it says in my sig, I'm 25, but I constantly get mistakened for barely 18 (which, since having DS, I think is complete and utter rubbish)
When I was in my mothers group, I was definitely the youngest by far. I hadn't turned 25 at the time, I was still 24 and the closest person in age was the next youngest at 28
I am often mistaken for 18 too! It could be taken as a compliment I guess, but it is quite disheartening to have eyebrows raised at cafe's and comments made in the supermarket.. sigh.
I have sort of been phased out of the playgroup here, I found it hard to become part of the group as I was the younger newbie and I also found it strange that little attention was paid to the kids, whereas I followed my little one around and played with her. Maybe they thought I was weird for that or something :P
The next mum older than me was mid thirties.
I can't wait to find other mum's I can relate to! I am very lucky to have a sister in Rockingham with a little one though.
Hi
Hope you move goes smoothly. There is quite a few playgroups around Rockingham. Ngala (WA early parenting service) runs a playgroup in Read street on Wednesdays 9.30 - 11.30 and guaranteed there will be mums of all ages there and the ladies that run it are lovely so can give you any help or advice about parenting issues or just have a general chat over coffee. I haven't been to the Rockingham one personally but go to the Kwinana one which is run by the same ladies and that one has a range of mums from teens to old farts like me :-) - no one looks down on anyone - they wouldn't be welcome if they did. I just find the atmosphere at their playgroups warm and welcoming. Plus they will probably have a list of kiddy things to do in the area. It is great around here, i love it, so much to do with the kids, i hope you love it too.
Fwiw i set up a playgroup in my village (Wellard) and we've a 'hard-core' or 6 or so of us - all over 30 bar one whose 23 and we all get along great so i hope you don't experience peopl elooking down on you - most normal people won't
Seeing as I work at Burswood Casino, it's a little disheartening for me too, seeing you need to be 18 to work in the casinos!
You are very lucky to have a sister there I think you should definitely check out the ones that PlonkeeMumma suggested
Julie, I'll have to come to the Kwinana one one day - with the horror mothers group I had, I am kinda shying away from mothers groups/play groups etc
Hey do Liz - the atmosphere is nice there although hit and miss as to whether it's really busy or just right. I don't go every week but every other week though. Let me know if you go and ill make sure i do so we can say hi :-) - it's on Tuesdays 9.30 - 11.30 although your William's under 1 (I have a William too) so you could go to their Monday session which is specifically for bubs under 1.
Mondays are 10 - 11.30 and they are both at the Frank Konecny Centre on the corner of Skottowe and Parmelia Avenue in Parmelia - The Wellard Road end of Parmelia Ave
Just a piece of fruit to share for morning tea and a gold coin donation is requested but if you don't have any change on you there's no hassle - i quite often have no money on me so put a bit extra in the next time i go. All very relaxed with nice activities for littles to do, playdoh, painting, storytimes and songs.
Hi Everyone,
I'm 26 and we (my husband and one year old daughter) have just moved over from tassie to Waikiki leaving all our family and friends behind. so i am just wondering if there are any other mummies out there that catch up coz would like to get out of the house now that we have managed to get our bearings a little bit?
Look forward to hearing from you!!!
Danielle

Hi Danielle
We're going away next week, but I'd love to do a small catchup of ladies in my area (Baldivis, Waikki, Rockingham, Safety Bay, Port Kennedy etc etc) when we come back the week after.
Hi Liz,
That sounds great maybe you could email me when you come back? my email is dan_paddy@hotmail.com looking forward to meeting some people in the area and miss tildi would love to play with someone other than me
For those under 25 there is a Mother's group run by Challenger Tafe that is free with lunch provided.
Most of the girls/ladies are currently in their early 20's although there are also teens that attend. It is a support group so there is no judging of others.
