    Anyone tried Bumgenius Pocket?

I've got a AIO bumgenius and I really like it but S is growing out of it and I wondered about these as an alternative. Has anyone tried them?

I bought the Bum Genius One Size AIO Nappies, I'm not sure if they're the ones you're talking about?!? If so, I've found them to be FANTASTIC. They fit will and are microfibre insert is super thirsty.

I've got quite a few BumGenius V2 one-size pocket nappies... I find the fit and absorbancy to be brilliant. After about 9 months of use they are looking a bit ratty (a couple have shot leg elastics now too), I feel they lose the 'new' look pretty quickly.

Despite these couple of niggles (which you get in a few brands) I've found them to be excellent value for money and they do a great job.

I have BumG pocket & its our favourite nappy atm. We don't have many, only 3 different sorts, but the BumG pocket is lovely. Jovie lasts a lot longer in it than she does in any other MCN.

As much as I like them I have to agree with this. I've been using my oldest ones for about the same length of time and they look a bit tired. Especially the lycra wings. Not happy with the look of them.

    Performance wise they are great!

Nice to know I'm not the only one Sammi. I bought one-size Greenkids pockets a month or so earlier than the BumG's and they still look like brand new.

We've got a few BG and I love them, the stretchy wings are good and the suade lining keeps DD feeling dry for ages. She went down in one overnight by accident and it didn't leak until I was just getting up to change her in the morning and that was without any extra boosting. I love the one size fi and also the one size insert fits really nicely into the pocket

Thanks for your advice, girls - I think I might go for it and get a few. (Sarah, it's your site where I saw them! )

I just put a BG pocket on my bub just then, ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS fit! I'm so impressed. Will have to buy some more as well if absorbancy (sp?) goes well.

I haven't yet, but I'm just about to! (as soon as bub wakes up!) I'll let you know how I get on.

They are so cute though and this is my very first MCN experience so I have my fingers crossed that all goes well! I only have 3 so far, and success will help me convince DH that MCN are actually a good idea, and enable me to buy more. I'm hoping to stick to only one-size nappies so that I don't have to buy different sizes. I do wish they came in more colours and/or patterns though.

Those who have had problems with the leg elastic etc, is there anything particular that you've been doing or using when you wash them?

The BG website is really, really fussy about what types of detergents should be used, ie: no fragrances, etc. I've read in various forums that any detergents using enzymes or optical brighteners shouldn't be used on cloth nappies because it can affect the absorbency and degrades the elastic (and have also read that some people use them without any problems).

Compared to most other cloth nappies, BG as a company seem to be the most militant about the issue of how to wash them - does anyone think it's really a factor or do they just wear out quicker than other brands?

I'm considering using one-sizers because they are supposed to be more economical in the long run, but not if they wear out!

Suse - it's interesting you point that out. I just started another thread before I read this about the elastic going in my BumGs. I have been really disappointed with that aspect of them (but otherwise LOVE them). I wash them in cold with half amount of radiant powder. I'm sure that must be OK?

Linda I replied in your other thread but I'm sure I've read about using powder with enzymes is bad for the elasic. Will try to remembers where I read it...

Hi Linda - I think Sammi is right - I've read it on a few forums myself. Not sure what is in Radiant - I checked out the Unilever site but couldn't get an ingredient list. But if it's made by Unilever chances are they put as much stuff in it as humanly possible!

I've only just received my batch of BGs, so have only washed them once! (I still don't have a bum to put in them, not long now). After constant wear and washing - we'll see how the elastic is lasting then! I'm finding my new nappies too cute for words and am not sure that anything that adorable should be used to catch poo, but will probably get over that little hangup pretty quickly! ;-)

Since I got a front loader I use the Aware (sensitive) powder because it doesn't contain any brighteners, enzymes, phosphate or fragrances; but I've never liked the overpoweringly strong fragrance that most of the big brand powders have (but I'm a bit sensitive to synthetic fragrances so it could just be me). This is the first time that I've ever had to think about what I put in a washing machine for any other reason but personal preference, so I really don't know what the truth of the matter is!

I'm not sure whether BG do it, but I've heard that some nappy makers will replace the elastic if/when it goes - it still works out much cheaper than buying a whole new nappy. Does anybody know about this or am I just imagining it!

I'd love to know about the elastc replacement too Suse! I was thinking I should ask around & see if I could pay someone to do them all for me.

So radiant is definitely out. I even bought a whole 10kg box of it. But I'm almost through that. Any suggestions on what to use then?

    Hi suse,

we recommend Amolin, Purity or tri nature. Generally things that are suitable for grey water systems or sensitive skin are going to be better on fabrics. I prefer purity as it has the best stain removal power. I use half a capful for a load of nappies. but some nappy companies recommend you use nothing at all except a cup of vinegar (not suitable on PUL, more for fitteds)

Also try and avoid the dryer if you are worried about elastic.
