I'll second that pockets are a fabulous nappy - don't feel sad for a second! They are so versatile in terms of how they fit and how absorbent you want them to be, and they dry so quickly! Great great type of nappy.
You can use snap ins as you originally intended - although I imagine with a newborn's poop there will be many times where it's best to just throw the whole thing in the wash.
As bub gets older, you may be able to just use a liner and just throw the poop in the loo and liner in the wash - for example, one of my boys went through a phase of pooping just after a nappy change - so I'd pop in a flushable liner, and 5 minutes later just pull the liner&co out since the nappy was either dry or barely barely wet.
