Jude -- it probably won't help if I mention that I was born with the cord around my neck (and at 42 full weeks to boot, so I was 8 lb 15 oz), because I see why it scares you so much. But they're keeping an eye on you. Make sure you call them if you feel anything is not right!
I also sympathize 110% with the inability to sleep. I'm on my way in to the maternity ward at 11 this morning to get my kidneys checked out, because I have a pain in my back/right side that becomes so unbearable when I lie down that I want to scream. I sleep 2-3 hours a night. So yesterday when I got home from work I tried to take a nap -- despite not having any pain right then, I laid in bed for 2 hours without sleeping a wink! I've never understood how it seems you're least able to sleep when you really need it the most.
I managed to rearrange my maternity leave at work though. Now I'm working 50% for the next two weeks while I make sure my replacement can handle the software release that's on deck right now, and then I'm off. And my boss, ever awesome, was like "Are you sure? We don't want you to be stressed right now, so you should be off full time now if you're in pain, you shouldn't be trying to be brave." My job is so super boring and I miss being a teacher, but it's so nice working for caring, flexible people instead of a psychopath school principal.
