Howdy all,

Well I finally made it into this thread - ok so its still early days and this little bean has already caused its mummy to panic twice but we are so far so good.

I have joined my due date group but I don't it will be the same as sharing fears with people who have been through similar to me. Especially as Nikita's 1st birthday and angelversary approach over the next couple of months.

Still I am hopeful that Beanie will be my earth bound baby and that this time bubby will come home from hospital with mummy and daddy.

Looking forward to sharing stories and advice with everyone.

Welcome Nae!!

It's a big step I know to make it to this forum, so congrats. Only a few more weeks for you and you'll be in the 2nd trimester.

As for us, I had a WHOLE night's sleep last night thanks to DH being wonderful and giving bub some expressed milk, as well as an unusually settled bub. I felt a bit guilty but I needed the rest. DH is back at work on Tuesday so I need my energy up to take on more of the burden, he seems to spend more of the night up with bub than I do.

Thanks Rozzie, I am pretty nervous but excited all at once. I am going through the "do I argue and get a stitch put in JIC or do I trust my Ob and just be monitored closely" arguement in my head atm. My Ob doesn't believe I have an IC and that our probs started with contractions but who know? All I know is I never want to walk that road again. I am seeing a specialist for the NT scan in 3 weeks so will see what they think.

Nae congratulations hun on your pregnancy. How frequently can you ask for scans to check the cervix length?
My aunt is down South Gippsland way, she is in Paynesville. We have been there twice now. Long drive from Melbourne but even longer when you do the reverse trip leaving in the middle of the night to be on the ferry back to Tasmania at 7am for the day crossing.

Rozzie wow lucky girl.. I am lucky to get 2 hrs sleep in one go, more like an hour and then it takes about an hour or over for a whole feed process .. it takes Daniel a while to find the right latch coz he changes his mind each feed how he wants to be held.

Tildy wow still waiting!!!! Has your OB talked about induction at all???

Tildy, Still no news? How long are they going to let you go before they give you some help going into labor?


Everything is still moving along with me and bub. I had a growth scan last week and he is still growing well. I start my nst's on Monday. I am going to be very busy with doctor appts for the next couple of months. I have 2 nst's, a biophysical profile, and a regular OB visit every week. They also toss in a visit to the high risk OB and a growth scan every 2 weeks. I don't mind at all, I would go in everyday if I could.

I noticed you are in Sweden, I lurve Sweden its my favourite place in the world second only to my hone that is I went there in 2002 to a Swing Dancing Camp held in Herrang (can't work out how to do the accent things) we spent a week in Stockholm first then 4 weeks at dance camp. I just found the 22 hour daylight thing challenging I guess winter would be worse hey.

AngelicDragon - I haven't been to Paynesville yet but have heard its nice!! I think the plan will be weekly checks of the cervix from 16 weeks but I will remind Ob at my next appointemt that he said from 14 weeks last year.

Laney - I am glad things are still travelling nicely for you.

Just wondering, How many of you had a preterm bub by C-Sec?
I had a thought the other day that I was not fully pregnant with super huge bump when I had my C-sec I was only 24 weeks into the pregnancy. Will that make a difference to the uterine rupture risk?
It sounds silly but my rationing of it all is that I was smaller than a full term mum therefore the scars will have to stretch further when I reach full term? does that make sense?
I cannot believe how many things are worrying me, silly little things, all the what if's.
I guess everything is becoming harder as we get closer to dates when everything started last year - like the 4th May when I was admitted into hospital and first told I was expecting to give birth within 48 hours. the 25th May when Nikita was born and the 2nd June when my little girl couldn't fight anymore and we switched off her life support.

I am begining to feel very isolated from friends who cannot relate though they are supportive I just cannot talk to them. BB is the only place I have in the entire world where I feel comfortable but I hate feeling like a burden to people IYKWIM.

ahhh anyway I am just letting off some steam - pay it no mind I will be better after a rest.

Just lurking, but wanted to let you know NaeNae that I had my DS2 at 41+2 (and 4.48 kilos) after having an emergency c/s with DS1 at 34w, he was 1.9 kilos. Nobody mentioned anything about my scar at all.

In fact, my second c/s scar (larger baby) was smaller than my first...

Nae - I think Rozzie had a similar thing to you with the early c/s which is why she had another c/s this time around. I think there were some slightly increased risks with trying a VBAC due to where her scar was located but I am sure she can expand on that for you! Or maybe look at the last thread because I am sure she went into some detail about it for her particular situation. Horrible isn't it, all these extra things your mind comes up with to worry you - like you need another thing to worry about!

Laney - GREAT news that bub is still growing so well It is so great to see your ticker up above the 31 week mark now; keep up the good work!

My ob will examine me after removal to see if conditions look any good for induction but I have a feeling I will be coming home to wait it out. Nope, sorry guys, bubs has not come out yet. Instead of a baby I have a nasty cold. I'm doing everything I can to get rid of it fast because I simply CANNOT imagine giving birth in this condition!

Laney -- always happy to hear that you've had a good scan! Are they still checking up on you at frequent intervals? To answer your question about how long I'll go -- we have an appointment on April 16 (14 days after my due date) for an induction assessment. If my cervix is ripe, then they'll induce me at 7:15 the next day. If it's not, well... then I've already told DH that I might turn violent, as they'll make me wait a couple more days yet! But my midwife said that it's almost never the case that they don't induce on day 15 there and that they never ever have let it go past 43 weeks. Come on, Kebab, 3 more days to do your thing *poke poke*!

Jo -- Ooh, a big day, having the stitch out. Quite a milestone and a sign that things are coming along nicely.

Naenae -- (unfortunately) your worry about your early C-section isn't silly at all, judging by Rozzie's experience. Like Jo said, have a chat with her if you can (though she's got her hands full with Henry!). As for Sweden, I LOVE the long days in the summer! We have more like 20 hours of daylight down here perhaps, and DH, being both a native Swede and a big fan of sleep, isn't too tickled about it, but I love love love it. But yeah, I'm not sure it's worth the trade-off of averaging 20 minutes of genuine sunlight per day in the winter months... oh well, this weekend has been super sunny and lovely, so I'm not going to think about winter now!

Any of you who have gone into labor naturally before -- did you feel anything at all before they real, for-sure contractions came? Thing is, I feel NOTHING -- or rather, I have pain and aches and tiredness in my entire body EXCEPT my lower back and my uterus, which feel nothing but continued harmless kick-kickity-kick-kicking.

Hi Nae,

as far as your pre-term c-section goes, it was all explained to me like this.

In a regular full term c-section, the incision is made in the lower segment of the uterus, which isn't very muscular and doesn't contract like the top parts. Due to this, a VBAC afterward is fairly safe as the scar is in a spot that isn't particularly stressed during labour. However, this lower segment doesn't usually form till about 28 weeks, so a cut made before this time, whilst made low, doesn't guarantee the scar will be in the lower segment. My OB said that there are so few cases like ours there's no way to know what the risk of rupture is - it's somewhere between a normal c-section and a classical one.

So your scar may be in the muscular part, meaning a higher risk of rupture. During my recent C-section, they remarked my lower segment was paper thin, and actually ruptured when they moved the bladder out of the way. The OB afterward said that the bladder was probably stuck on some scar tissue so this is what caused the tear. It was very lucky I didn't go for a VBAC. I can have another pregnancy but if it's worse the next time they may recommend no further pregnancies, we can only wait. It's hard to judge in my case as I fell pregnant again really quickly (within 3 months) whereas it takes 6-9 months for the uterus to heal.

Does this help/make sense? I asked a lot of questions and think I understand it pretty well so if you want to know more let me know. I was so set on a VBAC but when he said he couldn't tell me what the risk was I thought there's no way I can make an informed decision. Losing another baby because of my decision would have been too much for me.

Tildy it's hard waiting isn't it? I was 14 days post dates with my first and 10 days post dates with my third. I had lots of prelabour with both. So I was always on high alert - wondering: "is this it"???

I hope that your little kebab comes soon my love - I know the wait is awful...

Yes, it's definitely hard waiting! Physically and mentally I get noticably worse every day. I even notice that I'm reacting to certain things just like I did after losing Beiron -- I see a TV show where a woman has just given birth and get a familiar twinge of depression and think "Why won't that ever be me?" Strange, but true.

We were in the hospital Monday to get checked out because I was having chest pains, wheezing and numbness in my left hand. I knew that these would be explained by my nasty cold and the pregnancy carpal-tunnel thing, but I they told me to come in and I didn't argue -- I figured, heck, they'll check on the baby. The doc said my cold could be delaying labor. It turns out I was already "2 fingers" dilated and she swept my membranes. But still, no labor yet, although now I'm feeling lots of SOMETHING, slightly painful, especially in the cervix area, and realize I've been feeling it for about a week. But if these are contractions, they're certainly not behaving themselves, as they're sort of like lasting 2 seconds and coming once every 10 seconds for an hour and I couldn't say where they begin or end...

So it's looking super likely that, after our induction assessment tomorrow at 10am, I will be induced by water breaking/contraction IV-drip on Friday morning at 7:15, and see what it's like to fight through a long and intense induced labor while fighting a nasty head and chest cold! I told DH I wasn't scared before but the induction sort of makes it scary. I figured I would have to try to explain, but he got it right away: "Yeah, I suppose it's like, instead of thinking you'll die suddenly and without warning, having a date set for your execution." Ha!
