Hi everyone well number 4 is on the way !!!!! yahhhhhh , we are sooo excited.
I was wondering if there are anymore diabetic expectant mums out there?
Its been a few years since my last pregnancy and i can't quite remember but my BSLs have gone up through the night with this one and I used to comatose ( slip into a coma resulting from low BSLs ) with my other pregnancys? Has anyone else had this experience?
I am not currently pregnant but I am a type 2 diabetic. I was placed on insulin at 8 weeks and continued until I gave birth. My BSL's were under control until I hit about week 30 then they were all over the place
Sorry but I haven't had any experiences like you described.
I am type one and although am yet to have a take home bubba have experienced the lows and highs of first trimester issues.
There is an awesome austrlian webiste called Reality Check and there are a few type ones preggas at the moment.
Also there is a very good yahoo group called positivediabeticpregnancies (note the plural in the name)...is american in origin but has ladies from all over the world on it and is just fantastic for D related support.
There are a couple of type ones on here...Fiona recently had her gorgeous second bubba at 36 weeks and is doing well.
With regards the BSLs my endo said that is not guaranteed that you will get first trimester lows...apparently only about half get those, some more get a slight lowering in insulin and some find the need to ramp up the doses right from the word go...in his words nothing is predictable and you just need to test test test and correct correct correct as needed, but I am sure you know that!!
Congrats anyways on achieving four pregnancies with the big D and strap your self in tight for what i am sure you know is going to be a huge rollercoaster for the next few months.
Also do you use MDI or are you on a pump....i am a pumper and find it so much easier to control now...just a thought....
I am on a pump I was the 5th person in Asutralia on one and my first daughter was the fifth baby born with a mother on a pump.
I have been on a pump for just over 10 years now.
Pump therapy has certainly come along way....
I have recently upgraded to my Animas pump from my Medtronic ( paradigm).
I love my Animas pump I have sooooo much more control especially with the downloading of my results so I can see straight away what my bsls are doing through the day night and it even helps out giving me total averages for the day, week, month three months ( whatever I program in) so I can work out my HBA1c roughly.
Thanks for the info about the pregnancy information websites.
Yes I have my bean ( i have been through a lot on life though to have it ) Don't give up hope honey..... sending you and plenty of it.
