Question 1st scan - slow heartbeat

I am 7 weeks 4 days and had my very first scan today and very worried. The fetus measures 6 weeks and 2 days which is a bit smaller than it should be and heart beat is also slower 95 (should be 100).

My FS will talk to me tomorrow and nurse is really nice but she basically said there is nothing you can do but wait till another scan in a week or 10 days time. That sounds really really long ...

I just want to ask any of you had a similar experience that still go on with a healthy pregnancy? Maybe my little one is just a late bloomer like his mum...

Any advice would be helpful to ease off my mind, thanks guys!

    Hey BeiBei,

    Hugs to you chickie!

They never actually measured size or heartbeat for me at 7 weeks...

Hopefully talking with your FS tomorrow will help...so hoping!

Wishing you and bubba all the best...and a pregnancy that is so healthy and beautiful!

I find it hard to understand how 5 beats per minute could make a difference? Surely 95 is close enough to 100????

Tell me about it Sportychick, this 5 beats less is scarying the daylight out of me...my FS even warned me to expect the worst...

I just talked to my mum (she lives overseas), she asked the local OB straight away and she told me that she was laughed at because they said at this early stage, they don't even measure and with heart beat of 95, what else do you expect?

So I am really confused now maybe 'ignorance is a blessing' sometimes, I am hoping I am just worrying about nothing...but there is this deep fear that I can't shake off...this is so hard!

you poor thing, i think it is a modern curse as we get too much info!!! I hope the FS gives you some reassurance tomorrow and that the 7-10 week wait goes quickly. I had a scan at 8 wks (dating scan) but they didnt tell me the heart rate so I cant be of any help there. good luck and let us know how you go...

Shame girl, I agree with pregpan. To much info is not alway good. Now you are stressing about something, when you need to relax and enjoy. Sure hope it's nothing serious and that little angel was just playing a nasty trick on mommy
    Good luck

With my first baby when I was 5 weeks pg I had to be rushed to hospital after I fainted from seviere abdominal pain, I had an internal scan and was told I had a bicornate uterus and not only was this pregnancy doomed but I probably wouldn't have kids. I had to wait for a 10 week scan wish was agonising. When I had the scan (expecting the worst) I was told baby was fine, all was fine OMG! why did I have that early scan? I wish I didn't know! after the birth of my second baby during my c/s I was told there was no sign of a bicornate uterus and he didn't know what the last ob saw but there was nothing wrong!??? I just had my 9 week date scan for this pg (my 3rd) and I was told that my uterus tilts back making it harder to see the baby but not a health risk at all, everything went fine but it was frustrating to think with all the scans I've had they come up with something different everytime! It makes you wonder if they perhaps they see something "out of the norm" and think the worst?

    Hi Tiff

Thanks for sharing your story...my uterus is tilted as well, do you think that kind of affect the measurement becaus its hard to see...the sonographer did say that always hard to see the baby when you have a retroverted uterus...

    Bei,
At my 7 week scan they told me not to freak if there was no heart beat, so when it flickered all he said was there it is. I know it is going to be along time between scans for you...hugs

Oh Bei Bei, I'm sorry you have to go through this!! Sometimes ignorance is bliss..we had the ol "hcg didnt quite double" yada yada.. we also had the IVF nurse ask us after our six week scan"did the sonographer happen to mention what the heartbeat was?" NOOOOOO I went into a total panic, DH ended up ringing the nurse wanting answers..she then got onto the sonographer and although he hadn't noted (which he should have) the exact rate he promised that it was fine. He has been doing this job for 30 years and he reckons you just know by looking and listening. I would think for 5 beats it is neither here nor there? I know how crap this sort of feeling can be, just wanting to relax and enjoy. Stay positive xx

My heartrate goes from 55 to 85 just sitting on the lounge, heartrates are not a constant, they change all the time, most likely your bub was nice and relaxed when they did the scan :-) Don't worry - worrying will produce stress hormones which will upset both of you. Put your feet up and take some time out. All will be good :-)

Smudge!! So please to hear from you again...believe it or not, I was thinking of you the other day and wondering how far down you are? 13 weeks! How fantastic! I vividly remembered the stressful time you went through at the time...ah, how relieved and happy you are now! Hope everything is going fantasticly! Thanks for the comforting words, I am feeling more positive today and I think I will be ok...

Roquen, I am doing exactly what you said, put my feet up and watch my favourate DVD and had lots of laughs tonight...

Tomorrow is another day closer to the scan! Ah, at least its Friday!
