1st trimester with a 9 months old... what to watch out for?

I have a 9 months old who's super active these days.. she kicks, hits, and pretty much anything she could do to exercise her limbs... LOL. Well, having said that, I know that I have to be more careful now since I'm pregnant and am so afraid of something happening to bubba #2.... how did you manage having a young, handful bub while carrying another one in the belly? What are the things to watch out for? I feel so paranoid and am so scared that something bad will end up.... STUPID ME but can't help feeling this way! ARGH

I have just had my second little man. My first turns 2 next week so was a little older than yours when I was in my first trimester.

I was concerned as well but my GP said bubs is very well protected so there is really nothing you need to do differently. Just listen to your body. When you get uncomfortable, then you know to change what you are doing.

I found that as I got bigger, it got very uncomfortable holding DS1 on my hip as it through out my balance and made my back sore. I just moved him to the front and had him sit on my arm instead. Just minor adjustments.

DD2 has been kicking me when I change her, she sits on me , elbows me etc. Im just hoping the padding around bub protects him/her!! I am trusting mother nature on this one! xo

I know exactly how you feel hun, I fell pregnant (planned) when my first was 11 months old (nearly 12 months).

Its realyl difficult, but just try to do all the same old stuff. Have the cuddles, and remember that your baby is so safely tucked away in there. As webmeg said, mother nature will look after you.
My son kicks me and pokes me and sits on my big belly now... I do try and avoid it, but i cant stop my first child having his normal contact with me.

Thank God I am not the only one feeling this way.

Mummatotwo, thanks for reminding me not to forget about the time between DD and I. I think I started to have some limits when she's around me because I'm so scared that she will hurt bubba... It's an awful strange feeling having another baby while wanting to cuddle with DD without taking any precautions. DD doesn't understand now but hopefully she will soon see my growing belly and get the meaning there... I'll probably make her listen to bubba's heartbeat even though she won't be able to do so with her ears...

Webbmeg, I guess we're on the same road at the moment except that you are further along than I. hmmm, speaking of that, I guess I need to change my ticker and it's time to do the count down again! I think time will fly by as we're having fun with our DDs. And yes, we will trust mother nature that there's the best protection for our bodies!

CourtRach, I will take you as an example... will listen to my body instead of taking unnecessary precautions. DD loves kicking my belly when she's being changed... (for some odd reason), will try to prevent this from happening... aside from that, I guess I'm still okay to hold her. By the way, do you think it'll harm bub if DD kicks my belly while being hold?

Carmen, My son at 19 months doesnt really understand, but i talk to him and tell him thats his little brother that he will get to meet soon. I encourage him to kiss his brother (my belly) and stroke with super gentle hands. Maybe this is something you can encourage early on so while she might not realyl get it just yet, she hears you talking softly about it and encouraging her to be pro active and gentle with your tummy. Rather then " no no dont hurt bubby" thats what i used to do... i felt so bad, i didnt want my son to hurt the baby and cause a miscarriage and it be his fault. But we just cant stop the cuddles. I always feel that until this baby is here, my son is my uptmost priority and nurturing his emotional side to the baby early rather then him thinking that he is doing something naughty was the better was for us to go.
Now if i say to him, where is your brother, he will lift my shirt and kiss my belly.

PLease dont fret, your doing an awesome job and i admire you doing it so early lol!!!!!
Maybe when your changing, stand to the side instead of at foot end? I do have this same problem and i just say gently to him, awwww poor brother please dont kick him.

Its a tough one, because i feel i have to watch every word i say to my son in order for him to respond in a loving way so he doesnt resent the baby, so he see's this is mum and dad's gift FOR him too.
