    Advice - Alan?

    Hey!
As you're probably aware i had some brown bleeding on wednesday morning. Very tiny amount. Wednesday afternoon i had an anti D shot and an ultrasound (everything was fine, they couldn't see any reason why the bleeding occured, just one of those things)

Earlier on today i went to the loo, wiped and there was more blood. TMI warning - it was like a string of red blood mixed with a lot of CM.. but very little. Just went to the loo again, about 2 hours later. and its just kinda brownish discharge. Woudln't even call it blood (but obviously thats where the brown colour is coming from)

My question. Do i go to the hospital to get another anti D shot??? It was less than 48 hours ago that i had my last shot??

    thanks
    tellytubby

    ps - i'm o neg blood type

    Hey

Sorry I'm obviously not Alan but just wondering why you had your Anti D shot so early? I am also O Negative but never had one that early. I have had one Anti D shot which was at 28 weeks and I have another one at 33 weeks and one after birth if bub is positive...but if bub is negative I don't need to have it. At 26 weeks I had to have a blood test for Antibodies as well. Not saying you had yours to early but was just curious as to why you had it earl thats all

    Hey SerenityLee,

I had to have one early because i had a bleed. Anytime you have a bleed you should get one done (well if you're a neg blood type.. not sure about other blood types). I would try and explain why, but i've never really grasped the whole concept! (i think it is something about your blood and the babies blood mixing.. your body realises that there is a different type of blood and creates antibodies to get rid of them, ie. get rid of the pregnancy - don't take my word for it though, thats just my understanding of the whole thing)

I had one after my m/c in jan this year too (cause obviously there was a bleed.. a very large one )

I also had a bleed at 16 weeks with my DD, and had it then aswell.
Other than that, i still continued to have the ones at 28 weeks and 33 weeks.

i hope this makes sense! LOL! like i said i've never really understood the whole thing!

    Hi Tellytubby
I don’t think that you need another anti-D shot.
Most of the time bleeding in early pregnancy is from you not your baby. You would only need the anti-D if it is your baby that is bleeding. You would also be covered by your shot on Wed.
Also you explained the need for anti-D very well.

    Thanks for that

I didn't really think about if you bled as thought it was only if the baby did but I guess they were being safe? Thanks for explaining though!

    Hi Tellytubby
I have just noticed that you are 10 weeks pregnant by your ticker. If this is correct you don’t need the anti-D. Your body will not make antibodies before you are 12 weeks pregnant. The injection will not harm you, I suppose that they were just being cautious or perhaps they did not know that you don’t need it prior to 12 weeks

I always thought you just had the 3 Anti D's, the one at 28 weeks and then 33 weeks and then when bub is born...only if bub is positive.

Awesome Alan! Thank you! I'll remember this if there is a next time, but hopefully there won't be a next time!
    Really appreciate it, thanks!

I've never heard anything about the Anti D shot... It would be great if you could give me some more information on it cos from the sounds of how telly tubby has explained I should have had one at 28 weeks. My blood type is A negative, but how do I know what bubs blood type is?

Any more info you can give this confused first timer would be great... Thanks

If your blood is negetive and the baby's father's is positive or unknown then you have Anti-D -- if the baby's father is also a negetive blood type then it is unneeded as there isn't a chance of your baby being positive. Bub either gets their blood type from you or the father.

I'm sure somebody else can explain it a bit better but one of the reasons you might not have had it is because both parents are negetive blood types. Not sure otherwise.

    Hi Miss Excited
If you are a negative blood group and your partner is a positive blood group then it is recommended that you have the Anti-D injection at about 28 weeks and again at about 34 weeks. It is not too late for you to get the injections but you should perhaps have a chat with your midwife/doctor. If you need any more help on this feel free to ask and I will tell you what I can.
