BIG weight gain in short time

    Hey guys,

I'm now 10 weeks... my weight hadn't really changed much, except for one week I was really sick and lost half a kg...
this week, a very slight sign of a bump appeared. .... and I gained some weight.. and some more, and some more.... 3KGS in ONE WEEK is kinda freakin me out a bit!!! and the slight bump is a bulge.. IN A WEEK!!!!!!!!!
I have certainly NOT been over eating, if anything I would have thought I haven't been eating enough as I'm just starting to feel better after some sever nausea for weeks.. Maybe it's a vampire baby trying to explode out of me, (I really don't want my hubby to know about my affair with Bill Compton!!

Has any one experienced this, or have an idea what my body is doing?!

Obviously I'm going to gain weight, but I'd really like to keep it under control so it's not so hard to lose afterwards.

    Thanks in advance lovely ladies!!

It might just be that your uterus has popped over your pubic bone which is making your tummy seem huge. It's about this stage of pg when your uterus is too big to remain entirely in your pelvis.
Don't worry too much about your weight gain. If you haven't gain alot yet, then maybe your body is catching up a little. If you haven't been eating anything different, then it's likely to just be 'baby' related weight. For me I don't gain alot when pg, but I am/was overweight to begin with, so it might have been different had I not been heavy. But there were still some weeks I would gain a kilo or two and others I wouldn't gain, or even lose weight. I'm sure if your weight gain is of concern, your doctor will let you know.

I always obsessed about my weight whilst pregnant, even though I knew I shouldn't, so I know where you are coming from. I'd try not to worry about the 3kg. I don't know about you, but my weight seems to fluctuate by a kg or so from one day to the next, so you might not have actually put on 3kg IYKWIM? And if you have, don't worry, 3kg in 10 weeks is awesome! I know that personally I put on 6-7kg by the time I was about half-way. I was actually really worried as I knew that the baby had most of it's growing still yet to do. I think my body just did all it's growing in the first half of the pregnancy as I only ended up putting on 10 (and was 7kg lighter when I arrived home from the hospital).

Your body is probably making up for the nausea hon (could also be bloating or fluid retention).

Please try not to worry (I know, easier said than done!). My fertility specialist explained it as your body preparing itself for a possible famine, like it would have done thousands of years ago e.g. storing up energy so that if you couldn't get to food, you'd have reserves (as baby takes what it needs to).

For what it's worth, I put on almost 10 kg (!) in the first tri as food was the only thing that helped my nausea. It slowed after that and seems to have plateaued now at about 15-16 kg total over the pregnancy. Sure, I have days where I feel heavy but I try to keep telling myself that my body is doing exactly what it needs to to be strong for labour and a healthy bub.

Hope you feel better about it soon and more importantly, congratulations!

Thankyou all for easing my mind!!!!! .. I was sooooo freaked out!

As it is, I am a whole kg yes this morning than I was yesterday morning.. (which has NEVER happened when not preg) so I guess there was a load of fluid!
And the bloating I had last night.. felt like one of those puffer fish!! but it was incredibly painful!!!.. that too has gone this morning after some blessed Mintec.

I'm pretty sensible about weight these days, but was anorexic for 8 years..(been recovered and the same stable weight for 10 years),
And although I am considered full recovered, I guess it's something you never fully shake!!!... But for the same reason I am so THANKFUL to be pregnant.. it should never have been!!!

Ah, fair enough - totally understandable.

The bloating is crazy in the first tri, you're not alone! All those hormones send our digestive systems into a tailspin.

I loved Mintec and peppermint tea too. Gentle exercise can help as well.

You should start to get some relief in a few weeks, hang in there

I probably put on about the same as you in the first tri... so far I am up 14kgs from the start, and I have 3 weeks to go... I read a good healthy weight gain of about 12-15kg for the entire pregnancy is good
