    Unknown Dates

I recently found out I’m pregnant with our 3rd child (as mentioned in the “introduce yourself” thread) and will be seeing a GP this week. But I honestly don’t have any idea how far along I am. It’s not something I monitored and I was on the pill (yasmin) I’ve tried to think about it, when I started feeling sick, etc but I just have no idea at all. I’m already showing but it is my 5th pregnancy and there’s a strong line of twins in the family (my first MC was twins also) so there could be a 100 reason’s I’m showing.

How do I find out how far along I am with out sounding like a complete idiot in front of the GP?

I could be anything from 4 weeks to 8 weeks (I think)

    Hi,

Firstly welcome to BB and congratulations on your pg.

I would tell your GP exactly what you have posted here and roughly the days which you had sex (DTD).
I thought I was 9 weeks when I was referred to my OBS but the u/s showed I was only 7.5 weeks, so my calculation was out too!

I think your GP would refer you for a dating ultrasound to determine your EDD.
I don't think you will sound like an idiot
Say you were on the pill and therefore don't know when you would have conceived.

Yes your first ultrasound will determine your EDD so ask for a referral if one is not offered. If the GP will be caring for you they will want to know how far along you ASAP. Otherwise you may be reffered to an antenatal clinic and they will send you for the ultrasound.

    Congrats on your pg!

    For me i had:

    1. No idea i was pregnant
    2. Didnt know AF had returned-id only had a baby 6-7 weeks prior to finding out!

So my GP said EDD was around 15/10 but sent for a dating scan and turns out EDD was 21/10... so not a great difference!

    My advice,
    Get a dating scan!!!!
I've had alot of trouble with my EDD during my pregnaancy, just because the GP was happy with my cycles..... and now my EDD has been changed several times with a 2nad a half week gap... it's very frustrating.
Just tell ur GP u were on the pill... I'm sure its happened to many people before... You won't look like a fool
    Good luck

    Hi Bianca

It is not unusual to not know your dates, so no reason to feel silly. I didn't know mine because my cycle is really irregular and screwy. My EDD was given to me as it turned out when I was 7 weeks and was worked out from a combination of BT and ultrasound.

I felt really stupid when I rang the OB to make the first appointment and of course, the first question was - How far along are you? and I had to say I didn't know!!!!!!!

Good thing though was that I had an EDD that did not change at all during my pregnancy as all subsequent ultrasounds agreed with the original date.

    Hope you find out soon.

I was still breastfeeding Indah & had only had about 3 periods that were all over the place so I too had no idea, so they sent me off for a dating scan...

You'll no doubt be sent off for 1 too!

    Best wishes & Congrat's!
