My doctor and the radiographer are estimating how far along I am and now I am really confused!
I suffer from PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and as such had irregular periods. I stopped using the contraceptive pill at the start of October so we feel very blessed already!
My last period began on the 9th November and finished on 14th November. I had 1 day of very light bleeding - which the doc seems to think was implantation. I haven't had any further periods since. Going by the ultrasound I had on 22nd January we could only see a gestational sac so the radiographer guesses I am 5 weeks preggers?! They have booked me in for another ultrasound on 20th February where they are guessing I'll be around 9 weeks.
Can anyone help me with this? Does this sound right? How does the implantation affect the date?
They are usualy fairly right with teh scan however a the one where they think you are 9 weeks they will measure bubs and give you a better idea congrats
Usually it's counted from your last period, but if they've been weird, then a scan should help you out. Congratulations! Have you found your belly buddies group yet? If you know roughly what your Estimated Due Date is?
Krissy, generally implantation occurs 7-10 days after conception. At the time of conception you are already considered to be 2 weeks pregnant. Most of the time your dates will be worked out from the date of your last period, but if they are irregular then it's not an accurate way of doing it.
If you had implantation bleeding and are considered to be around 5 weeks, then this means you would have conceived about 3 weeks ago. The scan is definitely the way to go to work out how far along you are. Your recent scan sounds like mine - just a sac showing and I was 5 weeks.
Congratulations! Good luck with your next scan... there will be a little flickering heart beat there by then which will make it worth the wait!
Hi,its soooo confusing i know my periods were also irregular and my doc thought i was over 7 weeks but when i went for the scan they could only see the sac also so he guessed 5 weeks for me too,he was right because i had to have a follow up scan 3 weeks later and they said i was 8 weeks, they seem to be very accurate so your next scan should confirm for sure!!
