    Is snorkelling safe??

    Does anyone know if snorkelling is safe during pregnancy?

    I'm pretty sure snorkelling is fine - it's more or less regular swimming anyway.
    It is scuba diving that you have to avoid since the pressure changes can be dangerous. If in doubt, check with the tour group/equipment provider and they will be able to confirm for you.

    I didn't snorkel when pg with DS because my OB said it was best not to, but I think he was just confused about what was involved. I would definately snorkel if I had the chance during this or subsequent pgs - just don't breath-hold for too long, I'd say. But that said unless you are able to hold your breath for 30 seconds plus while swimming under water (not may non-scuba divers or experienced swimmers can) I can't see how it would be a problem.

    I am a scuba diver so I researched this one. Yes, snorkelling is safe but it's probably best not to duck dive. The other thing is, some people believe tightfitting wetsuits shouldn't be worn as there is a possiblity they can restrict the circulation too much in pg women. So best to do it somewhere warm where you won't need one!! Enjoy it!!
