congrats on your PG

if you're going public, then my GP told me they like to have a range of blood tests done, which she ordered for me so i could have the results to provide to the hospital. it's also worth noting that the downs scan also requires a blood test that is usually completely a week (approx) before the scan.

they need the combined results of the blood test & scan to work out the probability - invic, these results are sent to a central place and you can get the results within about 30 mins of the u/s (as long as the BT results were sent around a week before). this scan/test is optional. i chose to have it because i'm 34 and at an age where the risk of downs is greater. my GP gave me a flyer on what the test was all about when i booked in - it was part of a bigger pregnancy pack that had lots of diff information.

my GP also gave me a referral for my 20 week scan, but the hospital could have done this as well.

even though my GP was lovely & helpful, i still found the start of my PG really daunting & a bit overwhelming - i felt like for weeks i had no idea what was going on. actually, that stayed with me until i started having regular hospital appts. now i just whinge about how long i need to wait at the hospital each visit
