    Early Ultrasound Question

We recently had our 8 weeks (from last period) scan and the sonographer said I am only measuring 6 weeks. I made comment about the sac not looking empty (as we couldn't see anything very clearly) and she agreed but repeated again only measured 6 weeks.

Hubby and I went home and went through our dates and whilst it was 8 weeks since my last period, we did the unprotected deeds on the 30th June and 3rd July which would match the 6 week measurement and also my bloods that were taken on the 31st July showed levels of 3 - 4 weeks. We don't feel there is any need to worry given bloods, scan and rough conception all match up and we figure nothing can grow until conceived! ha ha

But wanted to get some feedback to see what others thought??

    Thanks all!!!

    Was there a heartbeat?

I don't like the dates from LMP. For people like myself, it gives totally inaccurate dates and instills fear because I ovulate much later than the 'typical' 14 days. By my LMP the due date was end of August but by ovulation date and measurememt EDD was 25th September.

    Early Ultrasound Question

No heartbeat yet but was something in the sac and she said only measuring 6 weeks so didn't expect a heartbeat.....

I am glad someone else doesn't like the LMP dating because going from that date I was 8 weeks at time of scan measuring 6 weeks but going from the time we had unprotected relations 6 weeks is right and my bloods on the 31st showed my levels at 3 - 4 weeks so from the 31st to the scan would be 6 weeks also....the 'relations' dates and bloods support 6 weeks which is why we are thinking nothing to be alarmed about just yet.....we are just hoping we are right!! :-/

Ahhhh confusing dating scans, I have had my fair share unfortunately as well. I agree that I don't like going for lmp dates either - this pregnancy I ovulated day 21 - a whole week from the 'norm' which would had been confusing if I wasn't tracking. My sonographer told me at my last scan that they don't worry to much If there is no heartbeat if the baby hasn't reached 7mm yet - but obviously that's not a definite and that measurement can be reached anytime from 6-7 weeks. All this is from memory but I am pretty sure that's what they said. Lots crossed for you and like you said it's all very likely that you must obviously ovulated late!

It is very confusing!! But I know roughly when I ovulated and the 6 weeks coincides with it and I have just finished reading that fetal age is generally two weeks less than gestational age, so that gives me some comfort as well. I am figuring if none of my dates worked then we would probably be guaranteed bad news but given dates and bloods the in with the measure of 6 weeks we are going to remain positive for now!!!!
