    Eating at Tetsuyas

    Hi All,

I'm currently 10 weeks and this is my first pregnancy. so I'm pretty clueless. Anways, 6 months ago, I made a dinner reservation for Tetsuyas (sydney) in August. As they have a set degaustation menu, I was wondering whether it was ok for me to eat the food that they have. I'm really keen on going ahead with the dinner, but I don't want to jepardise the baby's health. From the looks of it, it does look all ok, but wanted to get some opinions.

    Menu
Pea Soup with Bitter Chocolate Sorbet

Smoked Ocean Trout & Avruga Caviar

    Leek & Crab Custard

Scallop Carpaccio with Red Wine Vinaigrette

Confit of Petuna Tasmanian Ocean Trout with Konbu, Daikon & Fennel
    Seasonal Green Salad

Ravioli of Queensland Spanner Crab with Tomato & Basil Vinaigrette

Grilled Fillet of Barramundi with Braised Nameko, Enoki & Woodear Mushrooms

Twice Cooked De-Boned Spatch**** with Olive & Caper Jus

Grilled Wagyu Beef with Lime & Wasabi

    Comte with Lentils

    Betroot & Blood Orange Sorbet
    Strawberry Shortcake

Vanilla Bean Ice Cream with White Beans & Dates

Chocolate Terrine with Mascarpone & Cognac Anglaise

Coffee or Tea & Petit Four
Thanks in advance for all your help

It's when you get to try out a lot of the chef's meals, but you get smaller portions, that's why you get like 6-10 courses.

Looks fine to me!! Only thing I might consider is the wasabi... cos that's hot isn't it?? Might play up on you later with heartburn or something.

yeah go!! but you should stay away from smoked fish, that was the only thing I could see in the menu that you could avoid, not sure about the caviar.
    Sounds yummmmmmmy

From memory it's smoked meats and fish, soft cheeses like brie, raw oysters, pate, and chicken that may not be fully cooked through.

also got to be careful with anything that has eggs in it that is not cooked. have to ask if this is the case with any custards, ice-creams, cheesecakes, shortcake even. HTH

I think it's to do with the listeria virus with chicken and eggs not sure about the eggs I wasn't warned about ice cream or custards I might have a look on google and see if I can find out anything.....

Sounds yum. Carpaccio is raw (normally raw beef) so I'd not eat that one, but the rest sounds OK. Have fun!

I found this about eggs hope this doesn't scare you

Undercooked eggs: Raw eggs or undercooked eggs have the potential to contain Salmonella. Raw eggs are often included in many commercial products including Egg Nog and some forms of Caesar salad dressing.

Be sure to check out the labels before you consume any of these products. Signs of salmonella food poisoning may include: fever, abdominal cramps and diarrhea.

Raw Meat: You may have been a fan of a good 'beef carpaccio' or round of sushi before pregnancy, but be sure to avoid raw or undercooked meat at all costs during your pregnancy. 'Rare' is simply not an option while pregnant. Why? Rare meats may contain bacteria, toxoplasmosis and Salmonella, all of which are harmful to your unborn baby.

You are twice as likely to experience food poisoning while pregnant, so be sure to ask for your meat prepared well.

Thanks for all the replies. Yep, I'll go ahead with the dinner as planned, I've been looking forward to it. I'll just skip the smoked ocean trout, the scallop carpaccio and ask them to cook the wagyu beef to well done. I prolly won't have the same experience as I would have if I wasn't preggers (no wine either), but I reakon I'll enjoy it anyways.

Thanks so much for all the help...

    Edit:
Actually I just saw this on the eatability site: http://www.eatability.com.au/au/sydney/tetsuyas.htm

The service is superb, adjusting the degustation for my pregnant state (no sushi!).
Looks like I can request a change in dishes... Ok guys, i'm definitely going ahead with it

I had degustation at Vue De Monde in Melbourne when I was about 8 weeks pregnant and I just told the chef I was pregnant and they made the menu to suit. With degustation they are pretty flexible as you generally pay more iykwim?
