Empty Gestational Sac - 5w2d

Hi all,

Went in for an early u/s due to some bleeding. Not very much, but even a tiny bit is scary.

Tech saw only an empty gestational sac measuring 5w6d (i was pretty sure i was 6w2d)and nothing else. She said its possible that its too early to see anything.

Has anyone else had a scan this early? What did you see?

Had the first of 4 planned quant hcg's today. The waitng is going to kill me!

I had an early scan and think they only saw that too. I had to go back a couple of weeks later to confirm the pg.

At 5w4d all we could see was a sac too. We had a follow up scan a week later and saw the heartbeat.

I had the same thing at one of my scans.. I think my 3rd sons scan it was.. We wwere so scared as we had had a loss 2 months prior.. But it turned out it was just to early.. We went back 2 weeks later and we saw a tiny baby with a tiny flickering heart.. I hope the same is for you..

Yeah, I think it's still pretty early to see anything so hopefully all is ok

I had the same thing on Friday - thought I was 6 weeks 6 days, measured 5w 5d, radiographer said it was a couple of days too early to see a heartbeat. I was going to let it go and wait til the NT scan, but now I'm slightly worried and think I might see if I can have another scan next week. My blood test came back as 4 weeks, when I thought I was 5 weeks too.

That sounda about right to me...and if you have a retroverted uterus it's really hard to see anything early on...which I have so I've never seen anything till after 6 weeks...thinking of you.

Yep, I`ve had early scans with every pregnancy. This current one at about 5.4 wks and she couldnt see anything, just an empty sac.
Its not very reassuring, but I`m sure its quite typical. With my first child they did a scan at 5.6 wks. We saw/heard a heart beat and the Dr said we were very fortunate, had it been a day earlier we probably wouldnt have seen anything.

Oh my gosh, the exact same thing happened to me today! I had some bleeding overnight, went in to rule out ectopic. Am supposed to be 6wks5 days, u/s said 5wks 2 days. "Normal intrauterine pregnancy" - I have to go back for another u/s in ten days to see what's what.

The only thing *not* freaking me out is that this has happened to me before. I've had two previous pregnancies where the dates have been so "off" that I had a positive pg test before they reckoned I even conceived!!!

Has the bleeding settled down?

I hope that we both get good outcomes. I can be so hard not to get paranoid. I keep poking my boobs to see if they are still sore. I'm so relieved to still feel sick.

I had the same & everything was fine when I went for a scan 3 weeks later.

I know, it's such a waiting game!!

I too have had this experience and I was a few days over 6 weeks and all we saw was an empty sac too. Went back two weeks later and there was our gorgeous little girl's heart beating away.

thanks so much everyone. you have all made me feel so much better. the bleeding has stopped for now and i am lookng forward to seeing what the hcg results come in at. Thankyou all again! I would be so lost without BB.

i have had 2 previous losses, so it is very scary. But I am just praying we will both be ok.

I've had some miscarriages too and it can make it harder to stay optmistic, can't it? I got up this morning and didn't feel like being sick and now I'm being all paranoid.

I had my first scan and i measured 5.5 weeks and i couldnt see anything either, it was just to get a rough estimate on when i was due cause my periods were all over the shop. I was concerned not being able to see anything so i asked my doctor if i could have another one so when i was 8 weeks i had another scan and sure enough there was my little bean moving around with a healthy strong heart beat.
