Hopefully someone who knows more about fitness will drop on in... I'm certainly no expert
I would think that you can do the excersises your body is used to doing. So if you have a routine you normally follow, it should still be safe to practice this during pregnancy, as long as you are comfortable and listening to your body - if you find anything painful then it is best not to do it.
But I would think that everyone is different, so it is always worth getting an opinion from someone IRT your individual situation.
Also, my dr advised that you shouldn't let your temperature or heart rate get too high. If you get hot, you can sweat to cool yourself down. Your baby can't sweat so can't cool him/herself down.
HTH a little.
I was doing boxing, pump and swimming before I feel pregnant and when I did fall pregnant my Dr said that I could still exercise but make sure you don't get your heart rate up too high or blood pressure. That kind of ruled out boxing. I stuck with pump for a while with lower weights. But your not supposed to do abdominals as the growing uterus and baby will be already putting pressure on the abs so when that part of the class came up I would just stretch and rest.
I still go to the gym now and have not stopped, but of course I stopped pump after about 4 months and starting swimming and doing aqua classes. i love being in the water.
I'm a personal trainer and Les Mills fitness instructor in body attack, body balance, body combat, body jam, body pump and RPM. I know I can't reference other links but you can definately do keyword searches if you want to know more about the classes on the internet.
My GP told me not to get too hot in especially the 1st trimester, so I ended up no longer teaching attack and combat, however I'm going to stick with instructing body pump - with light weights, body balance and RPM (not as full on, and I won't be instructing this one as I'd get too hot). And yes, don't go too hard on the ab's - maybe just get a fitball and sit on the ball - lift one leg off of the ground, and swap legs. It gently works the ab's building core strength.
GP's will also say to stay away from bike riding (stationary bike is ok though) horse riding, skiing, anything where there is a chance you may fall off and take a hard hit as you land (no matter how accomplished you are ) - for bubba's sake!
Keep your fluid up while exercising, and it's best to start exercising before you fall PG...
