Well I never thought I would be a member on one of these sites! But here I am.
I am 39 and just been told I am about 4/5 weeks pregnant. A bit vague on the actual timing as I am living in Turkey at the moment and I dont speak Turkish so I didnt get to ask as many questions as I would have liked.
Being told I was pregnant was a bit of a shock. I had missed a period (which has never happened in my life) and found out I had a cyst on my ovary that prevented me from ovulating. I was given some drugs to bring on my period, but 3 or 4 weeks later nothing had happened. I went back to my gyno and was expecting to be scheduled for surgery when I heard him say 'bebek var' (she has a baby). Once I had stopped crying he told me that he could only see the gestational sac as it was too early. He prescribed progesterone and elivit and told me to come back in 10 days.
My confusion is that up until I went to the doctor I had extemely sore breasts, slept every day (ungeard of for me), really bloated, cramping and had to buy a new bra cause i no longer fit into any i already had. Since the doctors visit, I no longer have sore breasts, I am not sleeping as much but still get some cramping. I seem to have lost weight as well but I think giving up alcohol may have contributed to that and stopped the bloating.
I am really worried that something has gone wrong and my little lodger is no longer with me.
Sorry for such a long winded intro but I have been stressing on this for ages and still have 6 days before I see the doctor again.
Anyone else lost early pregnancy symptoms in the first trimester???
I will be devestated if it doesnt work out. I have waited so long.
Thanks so much guys for your replies. Its nice to know there are people out there who care about other people they have never met. I dont know my due date yet but will definitely join a Belly Buddies group.
Cassius2 - I did some 'googling' to find out what exactly the progesterone was supposed to do and apparently it is prescribe for people who are a bit older and early on in pregnancy (before teh 12 week mark). It is supposed to help to keep the uterine lining plump and healthy and prevent a blighted ovum through drops in hormone levels.
Anyway, the sore breasts haven't returned but still cramping, blurred vision and started getting dizzy spells, like I am walking on the moon. totally weird. Am due back at the doctors on Saturday so will hopefully have some good news then. Even getting this far makes me feel like I am a very lucky person.
Not sure if this matches up with your dates (I think I got a bit confused about when you may have ovulated there?) but from what I understand when an egg first implants (about 7 days after you ovulate) you get a surge of pregnancy hormones, which die down a bit over the next few days, but then increase again about the time your period would be due - so when a pregnancy test will pick up the hormones.
When I got pregnant with my DD I had symptoms starting about the time of implantation - so in theory when I was about 3 weeks pregnant - that lasted about three days. This coincided with the early surge in hormones. Then my symptoms went away and didn't return about till after my period was due, so maybe when I was 5 weeks pregnant?
I don't think this pattern is necessarily obvious in every pregnancy because I have got pregnant twice since then and didn't notice any of the early surge symptoms, only the ones that appeared after my period was due. But just thought I'd let you know there is an explanation out there that may explain it, though as I said I'm not sure if your dates match up with that theory......
I remember feeling the implantation, which at the time it felt like I had stomach pain or some gastro! lol
I was mostly just exhausted and so I was taking some Vitamin B6 for my sore breasts, and some iron. One day I ate a lot of KFC whereas I'd normally only eat one piece.
I didn't do a pee on a stick test until I was 8 weeks along. Then the blood test at the doctor that week.
It is a rollercoaster and marathon in one. Each stage prepares you for the next lol.
You say it feels like you are walking on the moon.... maybe its bc you are on cloud nine????!!!!!
Congratulations to you....!!!!!!
I think that symptoms come and go - try not to stress about it... i reckon once you know you are pg it becomes more intense (knowing if you have symptoms or not) bc you are looking for them. try to relax and enjoy the feeling that you are growing a bubba!
IS there an international medical centre? (just in case you do want to spk to someone in English?)
Best of luck to you - enjoy this special time and I cant wait to hear more.
Well.....i went back for an ultrasound today to see if they could find a heartbeat. But there wasn't one. My gestational sac had grown from 28mm to 40mm in 10 days but the scan showed no little lodger. I have to go back in 5 days to have another scan and double check but after that its a curette (i have prob spelt that wrong but dont really care at this point).
Thanks for your support everyone. Hopefully next time things will turn out differently.
