Hate to say but yes illness can sometimes effect the development of the baby. I imagine it would only be a very small risk with simple illness such as a cold. But when I found out I was pregnant with #4, I had been to the dr just days before as I had a horrible throat infection. Temp of 41degree & a throat that looked like it had been through a mincer. Anyway antibiotics & panadol soon had me fixed. But then when # 4 was born he had retained testicles & associated hernia's on both sides, he also had a funny ear that looks normal now. Also, he has etching in his 4 front top teeth. Every one of these things are minor issues that have been or will correct themselves. So we were lucky. BUT I was told with each thing it could have been something as simple as a cold during early pregnancy. When I told them of the throat infection & the timing they all said Yep, that would have done it.. Mind you I was about 4 - 5 weeks when I had that.
I posted about it on here a while back & another member replied with her story that was similar to mine but her little had had issues with his Kidneys. She was also told, something as simple as a cold.
I hope I don't scare you with that, but Im just being honest. It can happen but I think generally everything will be fine. I think its possible more the high temps that are something to be careful about. xox Congratulations on your pregnancy too BTW
You do have to be careful of fevers, read up in your pregnancy books on the best way to deal with those as you can't have a high temperature while pregnant. I think that fever would most likely be the cause of something going wrong, most pregnancy books say that a simple cold without fever is Ok. Just take plenty of fluids and rest a lot so that you give yourself a chance to get over it quicker. Extra sleep might knock it over and take a few days off work if you aren't feeling well. Try not to stress, this won't help bubba and just make you feel bad. Hope you feel better soon.
Phone your doctor or ob so they can ease your worries.
Good point surprised! I have a cold at the moment and I'm 19 weeks pregnant. I haven't taken anything as I don't like taking medications during pregnancy if I can avoid it.
