Just wondering if anyone has dyed their hair from the hairdresser during their first trimester and whether it was safe?
I had a miscarriage in Sept three days after I got my hair coloured (really bad roots). At the time I didnt even consider it was the hair colouring and I'm sure it was just a coincidence, however Im fearful in cas eit happens again. I'm now pregnant again, 1 day shy of 4 weeks (let's hope I get there and it's not a chemical miscarriage). I haven't coloured my hair since Sept and it looks awful, but I'm not sure whether to take the chance and colour it, or just suffer and look dreadful for 9 months.
I had read inconclusively that the chemical can go into your scalp and therefore affect the baby but there is no conclusive evidence.
I know this sounds like a really stupid question - I must admit, I feel really stupid asking!!! So sorry! Please let me know if anyone has coloured their hair and it's all turned out fine!
Most people will tell you that it doesn't cause any harm.
The truth is that very little study has been done on it.
It is thought to be harmless but that doesn't actually mean that it is.
After having had 3 m/c's I wasn't taking any chances & I went throughout my entire pregnancy without coloring my hair. It really didn't look that bad but I had heaps of greys showing by the end of it.
I persoanally would't take the risk with something that hasn't really been studied.
My hairdresser told me that plenty of women still get the hair done during pregnancy. She however would not do a tint straight onto the scalp of a pregnant woman. Only foils as the colour is on the hair not the scalp.
Maybe best to wait until the 2nd trimester (if you can) if you are really worried about it. Like Satya said you might want to limit your risks.
BUT if you dont feel "right" getting it done. then dont. Or atleast wait till the 2nd trimester.
If YOU believe that the last hair dye did something to encourage along the last m/c then wait.. ugly hair is worth the miracle you get at the end.
I waited the 40 weeks.. 43 actually to get my hair done. Problem is... i wanted to put a blonde through it (i dont like my blonde colour lol) and i was more worried about it going green as hormones in pregnancy, for some reason unknown, can play havic on what colour your hair turns out.
You're right! It's not worth the risk, just in case - particularly since I've already had one miscarriage!! If I do anything, I may just do a few foils.
