    Heavy lifting?

Hi, I am pregnant with my first child and am getting advice left right and centre from all my friends who have children. Yesterday I was told that I shouldn't be lifting anything heavy, and by that they meant bags of groceries, and buckets of soil, etc. I work on a 5000 ha reserve in the sticks - I simply can't imagine what its going to be like the next 8 months if I'm unable to lift anything!!

I've not heard anything about restrictions on lifting in the first trimester before. Does anyone know about this, what exactly are the risks, what weights might be safe etc???

I was told not to lift anything heavy by my doc when I started to spot early in the 1st tri. I'm not exactly sure what the reasoning was behind that. I stopped spotting and had a healthy pregnancy (after two early losses in a row in the previous 6 months). I was even told not to lift shopping bags.

I think mostly though it's to protect your back as everything is softening & stretching and lifting can cause damage. I think it's anything over 10kgs that's considered heavy.

Hi Satya, thanks for your comments. I havent spotted or had any reason to be worried yet but I think I'll do my best to take it easy until I see my doctor on Monday. Cheers BD
